when registering a car, Texas wants the original bill of sale from the dealer...and of course dealers are not going to give you a blank bill of sale....ideas??

its not like the old days when you can tell them you paid $500 for a car

If it's a dealer then you're not left with much options. Private sales are easier to do that with.

nope, private sales are even worse-- they type your VIN into their computer and use a presumptive value...like from KBB or something...doesn't matter what your paperwork says.

This must vary state to state. When I purchased my '99 LS400 a few years ago from a private party, I only paid a flat fee based on the year of the vehicle. It was only $95.

I almost bought an 08 TL-S in Georgia and NY tax was an extra 1624, no real way around it unless you lease and then it's only half, if you have any friends or family in other states then register for a new license in that state

To answer your original question - if you purchased from a dealer, Uncle Sam will get his cut, no matter what state you live and what state you purchased from. Sorry man........ pay up and like it!

Yes, from a dealer the tax will always be included. Usually I negotiate an OTD price where the factor in the tax to the final price. On private party sales though at least in my state we are tax exempt so don't pay any tax on the car

have a friend thats a dealer, have him buy the car whole sale and you pay for the car and he sells you the car for 3k a few months later in the mean time you roll on a dealer plate and yes you can insure a car even if its not registered.
