Could this mean whether or not the GT-R was being raced on the street? I thought the GPS in the car is supposed to automatically know when it's entered a legitimate race track and turn the limiters off.

Of course some owners are going to track race their cars.

Wow, a new excuse for losing a race besides the infamous "I miss a shift"

"I got a black box, that's why I lost"-(stupid nissan)

I agree with everyone else. What's the point of a supercar when you can't drive it fast?
Imagine the AMGs and Ms with this limitation

The black box WILL NOT be used by dealerships to accept or deny a warranty claim. Like mmarshall said, it will be used by court order only for vehicles involved in accidents where each driver is pointing a finger. The box records more than just speed, it also records throttle position at the moment of impact and all throttle activity up to 15 seconds before hand, brake pedal position and all activity before hand, steering angle and all activity before hand, acceleration g's, cornering g's, weather ABS was engaged, weather VSC was engaged, waether the car was under or over steering, weather any or all wheels locked up, weather or not the driver was wearing a seat belt, weather or not there were passangers, and the list goes on and on in great detail. The only thing it can't tell you is the drivers intentions. It is an invaluable tool in helping law enforcement solve traffic fatalities.

The truth is sad isn't it....

That's like telling Viper or Corvette owners to treat the car "delicately." It's a freaking racing machine!!!

Wasn't there a lawsuit where a Viper owner sued Dodge because of a lemon transmission. Dodge's defense was that "he shouldn't have pushed the car so hard..."
Dodge has a point. These may be serious high-performance cars, but they are DOT/EPA-certified, marketed, sold, and registered as street cars....not racing machines. Take them off the street, onto a track, and push them, and the warranty is voided, even if you are talking about something as simple as a piece of trim falling off.

i think, if i were buying a GT-R (with all the ways they have to void the warrenty), i would just resign myself to not having a warrenty ... i'm not buying a GT-R to not play with it

Coming from the iphone hack scene, we've hacked whatever the best computer engineers have put out........ People just don't have enough support on the user end to hack the factory computers in cars or this wouldn't be an issue.
