while there are a few lines i don't like about the a5/s5, overall i think it's a very nice car. and i think it's of great values too. my wife is never an audi fan, except the r8 (talk about taste). but after she saw an s5 in person, she added the car to the "can own" list.
that's what got my interested and read more about the s5, until i read about the upcoming rs5... now i just hope the car will make it to the US (you know audi...)

A5 with 265hp v6 auto is around 42K and you have to get a lux package for $1900 to get heated seats and some other things that should be standard and standard on many less expensive cars. Sport package is $2700 so just the v6 version can quickly get to mid to high 40's for a 2 door coupe version of a entry level Audi A4 which costs much less. Interiors of A4 and A5 are almost identical.
S5 with I believe a 340hp v8 auto starts around 52K, Nav is $2350/sport package is 2950, car quickly gets to mid to high 50's when adding some options/packages for a 2 door coupe heavily based on the entry level A4, with almost identical interior.
You end up paying a bunch more money for a coupe version of the Audi A4 which is unfortunate and is a little hard to swallow. The S5 I saw at the dealership was over 58K with a couple options/packages and that is pretty steep for that type of car.
A BMW 335i which I also think is overpriced is quicker and handles and drives better for less money then the S5.
A G37 coupe which I think is one of its closest competitors Starts around 35K and has more standard features and is rwd with a 333hp v6 that is about as quick if not a little quicker then the v8, is sportier, and a better driver. Even with some lux/sport packages the G37 is around or a little over 40K which is still less then where the A5 starts. A5/S5 has a nicer interior then the G37 and BMW but it is still pretty much identical to the entry level A4. Looks are subjective but I think I will have to say the A5/S5 looks the best of the 335/G37 I just don't think it is worth paying more for as the other cars generally drive and perform better. I still really like the A5/S5, I just wish it were 5K or 6K less expensive and especially the v6 version came with more features standard that really should be standard and not expensive option packages in its class. You have to pay $1900 extra just to get heated seats which are standard in most entry level 29-35K cars.

while i am not 100% head over heels with the styling, it just has presence and panache the coupe game has been missing without dropping 200k on an aston martin. Outside the weird leds, no random lines, no crazy shapes, no giant overhang. It also looks perfect stock, no "wait till its dropped on 22" rim" crap.
Saw another black one today with the chrome/aluminum accents and moving, its just art.
can i get an amen!?!??!?!

I follow you, makes sense. To me though, the looks of this car alone, justifies the higher price tag, as well as the exclusivity.
I am trying HARD to love the G37 but it just looks too much like the G35/Altima coupe and the performance is no better than an IS 350.

Wait the RS5 is out?! When did this happen?!
And I agree, the S5 is AMAZING. The designer of the car (I believe Walter de Silva) said it was the most beautiful car he ever designed. I wasn't really convinced when I saw the first pictures but when I saw it in the metal it was amazing!
