If they don't pick the GT-R these people will have 0 credibility with me and
I will never ever buy a single issue of this mag.

Remember, Phil, the COTY award is for the most significant new vehicle that breaks new automotive ground, not necessarily for the one that appeals most to enthusiasts.

The 1-Series, as nice a car as it is, is, IMO, too much like the 3-Series, both in execution and price, to get the COTY award. The Genesis, as a significant new car, IMO, is a far more deserving candidate. It breaks new ground for a Korean manufacturer in the U.S.......a mid-to-large size, V6/V8 powered RWD sedan.

I don't see where the GT-R really breaks that new an automotive ground in the U.S (see my answer to Phil above). We've had a number of supercars like it for sale here in the past, though, to an extent, it is the first true supercar for Nissan/Infiniti, if you don't count the twin-turbo 300ZX from the early/mid 90's.

A car that is handing the competition their *** in virtually every comparo and that stickers for 75K breaks no new ground? It is earth shattering, especially because it wears that crappy Nissan badge.

Twin Turbo 300ZX was nice for its time, but it is a shadow of what the GT-R represents. I never even considered that anywhere near a supercar.

the 1 series isn't gonna get an award because it is overpriced.

Though I obviously wasn't there to see it and verify the figures, supposedly, a new Cadillac CTS-V (a 4-door sedan) actually did better than the GT-R around the Nurburgring, and set a new record.

In fact, we have an active thread right now in CAR CHAT concerning the credibility of some of the GT-R's figures.

(That's an issue, BTW, I'm not taking sides in)

I agree....the TT 300ZX was not a supercar by today's standards, but, like the Twin-turbo Supra and 3000GT VR-4, was close to being one in the early 90's.

The Genesis probably makes a better case. The G8 is a nice car, but, in execution, is much like a 4-door GTO....sort of like the Dodge Charger R/T.

.
Are you serious?

Of all the tests and reviews that have given GTR thumbs up in every aspect, you are going to question credibility because some drunk *** Porsche employee made some dumb remarks?

I thought you were a car guy.

PS in lot of the tests GTR has topped GT2 times, let alone TT

Re-read what I said in the post.

(That's an issue, BTW, I'm not taking sides in)
Also, don't forget what the thread is about....the COTY award, not necessarily the GT-R's track figures, credible or not. That award, as I described earlier, goes to the most significant new car design measured by what it adds to the auto market. We've had a number of cars like the GT-R for sale before in the American market.....even at comparable prices, like the Corvette Z06 and Dodge Viper, though, like one poster pointed out, this is the first showing for a Nissan-badged supercar.

But 1SICKLEX above is correct...the Hyundai Genesis makes a better case. It's not a supercar, but in our opinions does more of a job of breaking new ground.....the first U.S. market RWD sedan from a Korean manufacturer.

You may disagree with me (and, of course, you're free to), but that is how I see it.
