wow, my first car, the SVX that is.
the engine was actually pretty good, it was just in a heavy horrible slushbox tranny car.

That Subie engine is water cooled instead of air cooled (original Porshe motor)

The original engine in that Porshe would burn oil too.. Nothing sounds as sweet as a Porshe flat 6 though... I would let the original engine blow up on me and not do the swap

Cliffud, there's a Porsche 914 that came out in one of the copies of Excellence a while back that featured a wrx motor in it. A lot of Porsche Purists were pissed as hell lol

This doesn't make any kind of sense. Why swap cheaper, stronger, easier to maintain, more reliable and more economical engines into other manufacturers' cars? And yet I've heard of these resourceful Americans doing this to 914s and to Boxsters too...I'm just shocked, shocked!

wow, it doesn't make any kind of sense? I appreciate things with their original pieces and parts. With your reasoning I should put a toyota engine in my mercedes right?

You have your opinion, i have mine. It doesnt mean mine doesn't make any sense.

Wow...this thread is a year old. Just so happens a buddy and i are doing a Porsche 914 Subaru EJ22 swap. Here's our thread: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=92942

And some pics:

Fixing some rust:

(we got bored and wondered how the stock 1IS wheels looked on the 914)

Our engine + transmission adapter plate+custom flywheel)

Intake holes for the radiator in the front trunk:

Progress has been slow lately, since we're both still in school + part-time jobs and only work on the car when time prohibits it.

So far we've only spent around $2300 or less into the entire project.
$300 - Yellow 914 Project
$300 - 914 parts car
$250 - JDM EJ22 Engine
$300 - Engine and Transmission adapter plate+flywheel
$40 - Engine harness diagram
$250 - Water pump, timing belt, pulleys, seals, and etc.
$70 - labor to do the water pump and timing belt change
$180 - (4) 205/50/15 Falken Azenis RT615's w/ 80% tread left
$300 - Rebuilt 914 (901) transaxle
$$$ - miscellaneous parts we were missing and sold parts to compensate

But yeah this is best way to create a reliable 70's Porsche. I'm never gonna go w/ the stock air cooled Type4 engine again. A few years back i went through two motors before calling it quits and got a reliable 89' Corolla GTS as my DD. My buddy actually wanted to do a 240z project, but couldn't find a roller or similar for a decent price and he wanted to do an engine swap. It was either going to be a KA24DET, SR20DET, or VG30. I somehow convinced him to go with a 914 since it was a cheaper and you rarely see a 914 on the street nowadays.

My uncles has one. It's pretty fun to drive.

Anywho, someone told me the other day that my Subaru has a Boxster engine, as in the Porsche Boxster. I think that they were confused.

I think you're confusing Boxster with Boxer Engine. Boxer engines are Horizontally Imposed engines. Theres no such thing as a Boxster engine, the engine in that car is a Boxer engine though .
