Who needs a V8 anymore? Still, I don't see how an auto is that fast.

how? I don't believe it, the G37 coupe got much worse numbers and all the editors were calling it a fat pig. Did the new G37 Sedan get a bigger engine than the coupe, what gives? Those times are faster than the 350Z HR which was killing the new G37 times.

That is impressive. It is almost as fast as a 335i. Car mags should collect a group of sports sedans and do a thorough comparison between them, I think the list should include: BMW M3 sedan, BMW 335i sedan, Lexus IS-F, Lexus IS350, Infiniti G37 sedan, Infiniti G35 sedan(08), Audi RS4 sedan(08), Audi A4 2.0T sedan(09), Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, Mercedes-Benz C350 Sport, Acura TL SH-AWD(09), Acura TL FWD(09), Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X MR, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR, Cadillac CTS-V, and Cadillac CTS 3.6 DI. I think that should be enough. It is a test between direct competitors, between new and old, between upper class and lower class of the same model. Hehe but it ain't gonna happen I know.

you guys need to check the updated times from G37 owners. a 6MT stock has hit 13.7 @ 103+. the trap time shows the engine is (of course) the same but the 7AT gearing allows for a quicker time. also, im pretty darn sure the G37 is faster than 6s 0-60. motorweek is a crappy publication.

Great stuff, so now the G37 sedan is up there with the IS350 and 335i; these three are the fastest sedans in their class. Ironic now that the TL almost looks like the lame duck in the class now in terms of straight-line speed. The 6MT model should change that, but it's not out yet so we will see.

I wonder how much faster the G37 and IS350 can get before needing another bump in engine size or FI. All you have to do for the 335 is up the boost (and void your warranty) for more power.

Not sure about the G37, but with the IS350 Toyota can simply put Valvematic and their upcoming Dual VVT-iE technology on the 3.5L V6. They would be able to raise power to 330-350HP while keeping displacement at 3.5L. Torque levels would approach or exceed 300 lb-ft. Fuel economy would improve by more than 10%, in theory making it best-in-class. Only downside is it would be very expensive, as these are still new technologies. Valvematic has not been in production that long, and Dual VVT-iE is still in prototype stage.

I'm not sure what technology Nissan has on top of VVEL, which the G37 already utilizes. In theory, Nissan can add direct injection.

i dont trust motorweek at all. aside from their show being complete garbage, they "tested" an 06 330i 0-60 in 6.1s. highly suspect that an 08 G37S 0-60 is 6.2s. if you look at all the performance numbers from motorweek, its clear they just grab those numbers from the manufacturer. so why they didnt do the same for the G37 is beyond me, but if you have seen motorweek's show they dont do any sort of performance testing on their own. they literally just reiterate manufacturer numbers.

Those are impressive numbers but I would wait until some more tests are done and see what the average is as 5 seconds flat is probably the very lowest of the spectrum and there is bound to be times a good deal higher. Motortrends numbers seem a bit better then most others as their previous G without the new seven speed auto did 0-60 in 5.3 seconds where most other sources were reporting high fives to low six second range, Motorweek got 0-60 in 6.2 seconds for the 330hp G37coupe which is pretty disappointing considering the last one was faster and better looking but Motorweek may have just had bad launches. I am not ******* the G sedan and coupe, that 5 seconds flat number is very impressive especially coming from an automatic v6 and will eat my v8 GS430 alive, good for Infiniti and it seems like the days of stick shift cars outperforming performance/mpg wise automatics is pretty much over with, I am looking forward to some kind of DSG transmission from Infiniti in the future to replace increasingly outdated manuals.
