So I got pulled over this morning...
...so that the cop could ask me what kind of rims I had on my car and where I got them from. Is that legal?
He pulled me over in traffic on the way to work, and once he got out of his car he was really friendly and just wanted to talk about cars but I was really freaked out at first. I kept waiting for him to say that I had done something wrong but he just wanted the exact paint code that I used for my wheels and the name of the bodyshop that did them for me.
Cool...but I was late to work

Should've asked him to write you a note to give to your boss

If they turn on their lights without sounding the siren, it's a call for your attention, but not because you did anything illegal. (Cops have done that with me before...)
It is also your right to tell the officer if you don't have time to chat. You can politely tell him that you have a schedule that you need to follow. You can, by your own choice, provide contact information to further discuss the situation at a better time.

Friendly PD stop
You blew a golden opportunity to obtain the "Get out of jail" password from the friendly officer. In the future get the guy's full name and current assignment. When stopped the next time, tell the officer that you know Officer John Doe who works Highway, etc. Chances are good that you'll get a pass if it's a minor stop. Happens all the time!

Well I guess it could have been worse, he could have pulled you over to harass you or something. I have been pulled over for a minor infraction from time to time and have gotten off, by just conversation. Heck one time, I told the officer I was armed with my glock on my hip, and next thing you know, we are heading to the shooting range so he could try it out! HAHA
