Default Just got a v8.1 hype from Sewell Lexus

Just got an email v8.1 Nav hype from Sewell Lexus.

Discount code gives $299 disk for $250 with trade in of old disk.

They say it's a DVD disk. I don't have DVD capability. Their pdf link to "installation" doesn't work.

If it doesn't fix the Nav lockout I don't need it.

You can't upgrade your Nav in North America from a DVD disk. Some other areas like the Middle East can, but not here. They have to use a laptop and purchase a "one-time use" upgrade key from Lexus. I had the 7.1 done on my previous car (complimentary from Lexus - ask for it). If they are offering this, it may be for a previous car you owned (?). The 7.1 changes included Hawaii maps, the replacement of the "I agree" screen with a 5-second caution, and of course updates for the maps, POIs and miscellaneous data.

I think you are referring to 7.1 update. I have not heard about 8.1 yet, but I'll call my dealer tomorrow and find out.

Just as I suspected. The new generation LS is not on the list as it uses USB only.

Thanks for the clarification, Whit! Maybe this thread should be moved to the appropriate forum.

I got this email too - not sure how I even got on their list since I've never purchased from them before. Plus I don't even have Nav on my car...

What do you drive? The dvd drive for the nav disc is located behind some panel.

I got the email too and im looking at buying an 07 IS if this changes the i agree screen ill buy it. Im not sure if anyone knows this but on the 08 you can push the map voice button to bypass the i agree screen and not have to wait for the 5 sec delay.

im guessing the LS600HL dont have DVD drives but uses internal HDD storage for navigation? (hence why Burnaby said upgrade is done through USB)

This thread was started in the LS forum, so I did not distinguish the application of the update. Indeed, the LS460 and the 600 in North America are updated via a USB port located under the dash next to the steering wheel. Other areas like Middle East still use a DVD to upgrade.
