Do you feel special driving an 'old' Lexus?

Proper old BMWs and Mercs ie pre 1980's are always great to see and turn my head. But anything less then 25 years old nope.. unfortunately Lexus as a brand has not been around long enough.

youd love my merc then, 72 280se 4.5 v8 bosch derived fuel injection, power windows, a/c rear defroster, am fm streao, 4 wheal disk breaks with wear sensors, all ready has the modern sensor such as maf etc. The leather is original and its in better shape than the one in my lexus (no joke) imo mercedes was way ahead of its time back then and now is working really hard to keep its lead again

Depends on the car. I think the 1SC's design is timeless but I do agree that MB does withstand the test of time. An old C-Class still looks good (the one from the mid-90s) and so does the old S-Classes (pre-2000). The only 2 BMWs that still look good to me are the 96-01 7 Series and the 93-98 3 Series.

An old car is an old car regardless of badge. It's invitable that redesigned cars obsolete the old ones. As for special, the only Lexus that is really "special" in my view right now is the LS600hL.
The only old car I really like is the early 90s NSX (I like it better than the newer one in fact).

I'm sure everyone in that conversation would have agreed that the 1SC has timeless design and still looks great these days. It's just a car that get's the general public's respect.

^exactly. That's just hating.
Just because you drive a car of a certain badge doesn't mean it stands the test of time better.

No offense to anyone who owns one of these, but I personally don't see how this car stands the test of time and looks any better than, say, this

In fact I personally think the ES looks cleaner and more modern. The Benz looks really old school. Not classic old, but just plain old
But still you can't really just sit there and flat out say that one is better than the other period. They're both cars that have seen better days.
In fact, I think my car looks just as good (if not better) than its rivals from the late 90's. I think it looks more modernized than its main competitors (e39 & W210). Mine is DPW pretty much like the one pictured and in similar condition too. It may not be new, but it still stacks up well against the competition from the 90's

You mean pre-98.
98+ went through 2003 in production.
As far as the Sc goes..... It's a little straight down the sides, kinda blocky from certain angles...... from the side and corners though.... sexy as hell.
From the back dead on you can see the blockiness.

but change it to a corner view and it's sexy.

I think it has to do with the age/tradition of a particular car brand. Also, the fact that Lexus' design tends to age well doesn't help Lexus with that vintage image, either.
For example, I would be a lot more interested to see a well-maintained 1982 Toyota Cressida than a 1991 LS400 in the same condition.
I don't mean to say that the Cressida is a better car than LS, but rather it's more of a rarity and comes with that classic and vintage appeal the Lexus is lacking.
Perhaps 50 years down the road, the general consensus regarding older Lexus cars' status but for now, pound for pound a 20-year-old BMW E34 5 series, Merc. 560SEC, Alfa Romeo, and perhaps even a Jag is always going to attract more curious eyes than a 1989 LS400.

That Legend Coupe is a Sherwood Green Pearl 1995 LS Coupe. The rims are 17" Manaray Spory MS-6 Hyper wrapped with 225/50/17 Toyor Proxes T1S. Fog Lights are Catz MSX in Ion Gold. This was a beautiful car. It was further modded after that picture was taken, then the owner gave that car to his Fiance' at the time (Now wife) and picked up a 93 LS Coupe 6-Speed and continued modding that car. I know for a fact that owner choose the Legend Coupe over the Lexus SC during that era. The owner later on did end up with a used Lexus SC400 just because he was always curious and did like the SC, but ended up getting ride of the SC4 about 2 years later.
The picture of that Legend brings back a lot of memories. I'm surprised that picture is still on the internet.

As for my feelings driving an old Lexus? I don't feel special, I just feel lucky to have the experience. I do feel that the 98+ LS400 is about the oldest LS I could buy or drive, and the 98+ GS is the oldest I could buy or drive (I have an 03 GS430 right now). For the SC400, I had a 93 and thought it was dated in stock form. Looks hot modded though. I think if I had the 98+ with the updated engine and trans and body moldings I would have been much happier.
