Infiniti GT-R saloon on way
Coupé will be joined by a four-door model
Auto Express Car ReviewsBy Jack Carfrae24th October 2008Nissan’s GT-R is growing, Auto Express can reveal. Sources in Japan have discovered that the hi-tech supercar will soon be available as a four-door – and it’s set to wear an Infiniti badge.
The flagship will rival the Porsche Panamera and BMW M5, and it uses the same four-wheel-drive chassis and twin-clutch gearbox as the GT-R coupé. However, it will have a longer wheelbase and place an emphasis on comfort and luxury rather than performance. Instead of the GT-R’s twin-turbo 3.8-litre V6, the saloon will have the same 5.0-litre V8 as the Infiniti FX50 SUV, tuned to give around 420bhp. That should still mean a 0-60mph time of five seconds and a top speed of 170mph. Expect the saloon to arrive in spring 2011.

2 distinct things.
1. Great idea on paper, this shares development costs with the GT-R. It also will give them some sort of "halo" car or flagship. I am sure the shape will not be boring and will stir some people up. Surely performance will be pretty damn good. V-8 plus Nissan's AWD makes my loins moist![Big Grin](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
2. Infiniti continues to be either rebadged NIssans or share to much with them, down to the new Nissan interiors. This is Nissan based again. Expensive Infinitis have trouble selling in the 50k plus market (we never have known how many M45s are sold, they never seperated numbers, we know every Q45 sold poorly)
Overall, I said since day one that a Nissan version of the GT-R does make sense, so I applaud it. Count another one in the "SICK got it right" column

There are a few renderings out of this already, I think it is labeled as the Infiniti R50.

Maybe they wanted it to be GT-R based but not share too much in common with the GT-R so that there would be room for a high performance model - something to compete with AMGs or BMW Ms perhaps? Just a thought...

I disagree. Nissan probably doesn't make any profit on the GT-R as it is, but diversify the platform and they can begin to recoup some of the development costs. Besides, Infiniti needs a car for M owners to trade up to and which can strengthen the brand's image. A GT-R based sedan makes perfect sense to me.
