Exxon-Mobil remarkably matches the taxes paid by the bottom 50% of Americans. One company!
Yup, and they could move headquarters to Dubai tomorrow and the govt and America would be screwed. But no, we just keep punishing them for doing a reliable excellent job of delivering vast amounts of oil.

One day they may shrug.

But the bottom 50% pay less than 4% of the total federal tax....

Also consider this: gas prices are down almost 60% since early in the year. If Exxon can make that kind of money when prices are dropping, that proves that it is not high prices that oil companies profit on. In fact, when oil prices ARE high, the oil companies themselves get screwed, too...........they have to pay the high prices for raw crude out of their own pockets, just like you have to pay for the price of gas at the pump.

Nevertheless, Exxon-Mobil will have paid about $40 billion in taxes for the 2008 year. That's astonishing for one company to pay.

People should think twice about criticizing them. They pay a lot of bills in this country.
