Rumors of Death of 2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser Greatly Exaggerated
TORRANCE, California — Toyota took pains on Wednesday via its corporate Open Road blog to reassure fans of the FJ Cruiser that there will be a 2009 model and that the Japanese automaker has no plans to discontinue the controversial SUV.
"The FJ Cruiser Reality: It's Alive!" said the headline on the blog posting. "It's come to our attention that a weird little snippit [sic] of misinformation seems to be making its way around and through the public consciousness," said Toyota. "That bit of misinformation has it that our popular FJ Cruiser, that muscular midsize SUV, has been discontinued, that when current supplies are gone, there'll be no more of them.
"That's just wrong. False. Not true."
Without spelling out just when the 2009 FJ Cruiser will hit showrooms, Toyota said: "There is an abundant supply of 2008 FJ Cruisers. When those are gone, there will be a nice supply of 2009 FJ Cruisers."
Toyota's media site also has plenty of images and information on the '09 FJ Cruiser. It's a carryover model with a few changes, including roll-sensing side curtain airbags and active headrests on the front seats. There are three new exterior colors: Black, Silver Fresco Metallic and Iceberg.
Toyota points out that the '08 FJ Cruiser qualifies for Toyota's zero-percent financing plan through November 9.
Inside Line says: No reason to freak out. The FJ Cruiser is not going away, says Toyota. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

I still remember before the next generation RAV4 came out there were rumors that the RAV4 was going to be discontinued...but guess what happened...
Here's a rumor that many people still believe which is the SC being discontinued....it's not getting discontinued...there will be a 2010 SC and it might be the SC 460...we just have to wait and see what happens...so far I think the SC 430 looks a little better than the IS C...

I remember it being posted here... I figured with high gas prices and slow SUV sales, Toyota was just doing the reasonable thing by trimming its SUV offerings down a bit. Maybe they really did consider it but when gas prices recovered they changed their mind and pulled the whole "what? discontinue the FJ? oh who said such a thing? surely not us!"
