i think all newer model ferraris are butt-ugly, Lambo's were good but the newer models incorporate too much of angular styling, I agree that the Italians design some of the most radical cars, like the Pagani for example, that thing does look agressive, but c'mon...bug eye headlights? proportions that make it look like a spaceship. Don't even get me started on the Enzo. Car's styling IMO should be curvaceous. bring back the 360, the 355, the 575....
I'd pick England: Astons, Bentley, Lotus, Rolls...need I say more?

I voted for Italy. Then I think Japan and Germany tied for the second spot.
The top five automakers consistently making good looking cars in my opinion are:
Ferrari, BMW, Lexus, Mazda, and Mercedes-Benz. Honda used to be good, but their recent new products, especially Acura badged ones, disppointed me. Audi and Porsche make great looking cars, but their design for the whole lineup are basically the same, not enough dissimilarities within models. Lamborghini and Maserati are currently having good looking cars, but that doesn't count as consistency, because I think their older models don't look that good.

I generally don't find Fiats good-looking at all (at least the ones I've seen), although they sure beat French Renaults. Lancia, OK, but nothing special. The Maserati Quattroporte, again, nice-looking, but not what I'd call beautiful. Same with most Alphas, though some Alpha Spyders are VERY nice.

I voted Italy. Not that we cannot differ in opinions, but I based this choice off of what makes my heart stop. Love many cars from all over, but if I count the ones that make me shed tears, they all come from Italy! (YES, Bikes too!)

speedflex, SPLENDID idea for a thread.
My 2 cents before I vote. While I will vote for the country that I think has the best designs, we live in a global market with global influence. For example
Ferrari Enzo and Scagaletti were designed by a Japanese man
So was the Dodge Viper
Acura TL was designed by Americans for the American market. As Accord/Camry etc
350Z was designed by an American of Indian heritage.
Give me tonight though.

I read somewhere that Fisker is Danish. But don't quote me on that.
But you're absolutely right about the international cross-pollenization in designers.

Ian Callum is a Brit. Scottish born, I believe. His contribution to Aston has resulted in some of the most drool-worthy cars of the modern era. You can see his influence in some of the newer Jags since he went to work for them.

Yes, Ian's first Jag was actually the X-type wagon, he did the rear.
This is tough for me.

Car designers move round the world from country to country, so you have Americans designing Italian and German cars, Brits designing Swedish, American and Japanese cars, a Frenchman designing British cars etc. etc. Having said which Giorgetto Giugairo is one of my favourite designers.
