Prestige quattro: $43k

By pricing the S4 even at mid 40's will totally eliminate the purpose of A4 3.2 imo.

Given that the base MSRP for the S5 is $50k I would guesstimate the S4 will start at around $49k. However, good luck on finding one at that price, most you see in the dealers will be around $54k with the tech + navi package (base on the S5 pricing). At $54k, I'll just get a M3 sedan...
Good luck finding a new M3 for 54k! Let's be fair here, most M3's are marked up with options just like you stated about the Audi and are going for 65-70 grand just like the new AMG C63's. If you can get a new M3 for that, you are the best haggler in the world because that is below dealer cost!

If I can't find it I can special order one at MSRP, which is $54.5k.

I am sure that I can special order a S4 at around $50k as well but why? For less than $5k more I can get a M3 for almost 100 more hp and better handling...

Not bad for a global recession
Includes the previous A4 in sales. If you haven't been to a local dealer, they are GIVING them away.

Why would I be in the market for a new Audi? I'm driving a new IS-F

I could care less about Audi or any other auto maker.....but I feel it is my obligation to correct people when they are posting lies....and spewing information they have no business talking about.

Let's just hug it out and move on with our lives!

I am not accusing you of anything. I stating that some of the help in sales was due to A4's having substantial discounts as the new model moves in.

It's the end of the year, we're in a global recession and "all" automakers are cutting prices and losing billions. How is Audi doing anything different

I'm sure it will come sooner rather than later.
(they already have a 3.6liter but it only makes 280hp)
I agree. That makes the 2.0T a better deal than the 3.2V6.

The 4.2 V8 in the S5 makes 350 hp but the S4 is getting the SC V6 with 333 hp according to Autoblog (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/02/p...009-audi-s4/):

Apparently Audi agrees, and in a move to further differentiate its lineup – while also providing some competition to the all-conquering BMW 335i – it's fitted the new S4 with a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 putting out 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque.
414-333 = 81. to me that's ALMOST a 100-hp difference.

I wonder who's killing who...

Um the new S4 isn't even out yet....and we were never discussing the new S5...we were comparing the S4 that produces yep you guessed it 350 hp. I know, I used to own one and dynoed 351 hp (BHP). So are we comparing cars that aren't even in production until 2010? If that's the case, then I'm going to say right here and now, that the new IS-F will beat the old E92 M3 around the track because it's going to improve the suspension and weight distribution by moving the 2UR-GSE engine back 2 inches...lol. Why blow 65k when for 60 err 54k msrp I can have an M3 killer

I'm going to special order a new IS-F for 2015 so I can make false claims regarding performance!

FWIW,

That article that you posted is actually quite outdated and contains speculation from before they released the production specs for the car.

The production S4 has a 3.0L Supercharged V6 with 333 hp.

Thank you very much.

I rest my case...

The best info we have so far on the S4 is 333 hp so I am sticking with that. I'll say it again, at around $54k and if AWD is not needed I just don't see a point of getting that over the M3 sedan.

RS4 vs M3: good match up if price is not a factor
S4 vs M3: eh...
S4 vs 335xi: good match up if price is not a factor
A4 3.2 vs. 335xi: good match up (pricing wise...) if performance is not a factor
A4 3.2 vs. 328xi: good match up if price is not a factor
A4 2.0T vs. 328xi: good match up

Audi should just elminate the A4 3.2 and start the SC 3.0 S4 at around low to mid 40's.
