Exclamation Toyota CNG Camry Hybrid Concept unveiled

So while the US automakers are drowning and begging for cash just to meet their payrolls, Toyota is rolling out its latest in hybrid technology: a natural gas hybrid.

The CNG Camry Hybrid is a concept car but it does provide some interesting numbers. With the natural gas equivalent of about 8 gallons of gasoline, the CNG Camry Hybrid gets a range of about 250 miles (or 400 km). That's an impressive pocketbook stat. It also emits lower levels of harmful emissions like NO-x, CO, CO2 gases as well as polluting particle matter.

But the car requires natural gas tanks, which must be cylindrical, in the spare-tire well and therefore come with runflat tires. Natural gas is also less dense, hence, less powerful, than gasoline or diesel fuel.

It's only a concept and there are no plans for production.

The CNG Camry Hybrid goes on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday.

So natural gas power and electric motors? Interesting.

"While Toyota enters crisis mode, slashing sales and profit predictions and now expects global operating profit to plummet 73.6 percent, they inveil a natural gas hybrid".

I love the Camry Hybrid. Took another test drive the other week and just a phenomenal little vehicle. Glad to see they are still improving it.

PS: whats the difference between LPG and CNG? The reason I ask is b/c most taxis in Japan run on LPG.

if north america adapts cng now, i'm going to be severely disappointed.. i'm originally from a third world country and those guys have implemented cng in their local gas stations, at almost every single gas station there's also cng pumps attached to it.. it is much cheaper and they have like a 5 gallon tank in the trunk of the car, you can switch between regular gas and cng with a button (Y)

Just one of the many more alternative fuel source.

LPG is liquid propane and CNG is natural gas. LPG stations seems to be more readily available than CNG stations so its probably one of the main reasons why more taxis in Japan run on this system.

gotcha. I think some newer buses in Tokyo run CNG.

wait, if it's cheap and available, why would you be "severely disappointed"?
