I know the standard M3 doesn't have brembos, they have those ugly 2 peice floating piston setup like the IS250, where you take the caliper off and there is still the torque clip thing holding the brake pads in.

Isn't there an optional upgrade giving the M3 BBK looking brakes aswell?

They were horrendous to work on, and made today's BMWs, mechanically, look simple.
I had a 91' Stealth twin turbo back in 98 had 3 years/50k of trouble free miles, had my e39 M5 for a year/12K wonderful miles,... then the vanos codes showed up at only 39K miles.... BMW is horrible.....
My current 540 only has 40K miles, need to change the vapor barrier, the auto headlight function dosent work anymore, int/wiper relay has to be changed, just had the dealer pull out the car history in 20ishK miles it had a new blower motor, and alternator put in....... . other than that the car drives new and solid... so Iam keeping it still. Had a GS400 for 50K miles -- NO ISSUES AT ALL --
The IS-F would be my next car no doubt if Lex put in the V160 or any manual tranny....

Nothing beats a proper stick shift.

My hand I broke my Talon's shifter somehow (the shifter assembly itself)... thus I went with a short shifter, might as well, right?

Fine....I'm glad for you. The Stealth Turbo and 3000GT VR4 were great as long as they didn't break down. If and when they did, depending on the problem, it could be a nightmare.

Drive an LS-F over rough roads and pavement warps/heaves before you make up your mind. This car has a very harsh ride over anything but glass-smooth pavement. The one I reviewed last April bucked up and down like a porpoise over bumps from the overly-stiff rear end.

I dont think there is a recall on the GTR...is there?? There is a difference between " clunky at low speeds" and RECALL

Get a Miata. The only complicated part of mine is the skid control and that can be turned off also.

Actually I was at a BMW dealer tonight for a meeting and a new red stick M3 coupe was parked right outside and after me drooling over it for a while a young guy came out and drove it off to wash it.

That car looked GREEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTT!

Yes, and avoid the power-top model.....for most people, it is not needed. The standard, manual-top Miata is a cinch....many people can raise/lower the top with one flick of the arm, sitting in the drivers' seat.

Seems like a minor fix. Of course, we'll see if the DCT is any more reliable than the SMG in the E46....

The SMG was perhaps the worst slushbox put in a "performance" vehicle.....second to "Godzilla" of course
