Wow... they must have so many 2008 Escalades on their lots from the sky rocketing oil prices earlier this year... its not wonder they are discounting them so much.... but I still doubt people will buy them even with huge discounts, because of the economy and the high maintenance costs

Year end inventory clearance and a crappy economy and tastes are changing. Escalade was one of the biggest (literally) "Hey look at me, I am balling and got money" vehicle. People are shying away from that image now as the economy has soured.
It was a great show-off vehicle for its time. Now, not so much.

Well I think its the situation GM is in, the fact dealers want to clear the models out, and the fact that oil prices aren't expected to stay this low (OPEC wants a barrel to be upwards of at least 80$)
this is sad, consumers are scared away. SUV's used to be best selling points for GM. Cars just sitting at the dealerships cost money, they need to get rid of them desperately these days.
