General Motors' Brave New World: Only Four Brands Will Survive
#18
Why would they wanna keep both Buick and Cadi? Both brands are for older people, wouldn't keeping Saturn make more sense, since its the only GM brand that appeals to younger crowd?

Yup. There are Buicks that are China only models that are quite popular. Japanese cars are not popular in China (leftover sentiment from the war), so you'll see a lot of VW's, Buicks, and other European cars.

While I think that the creation of a "final four" within a new GM theoretically sounds great, the inclusion of GMC is absolutely mind boggling to me. Keep the segment that has a duplicate of every model in the Chevy lineup, but with more chrome and wood? Oh, that definitely makes sense.
My final choices would be Chevrolet, Cadillac, and Saturn.
Cadillac- Luxury brand
Chevrolet- Mainstream Brand
Saturn- Entry level brand, a la Scion. Bring the company back to its roots of offering cheap, basic transportation.
Between upper level models of Chevy and base Cadillac models, Buick is redundant. A nice Impala or Malibu of the next generation would probably more than satisfy disenfranchised Buick shoppers.
Saab is crap. Hummer is old news. Pontiac, sans the G8, is redundant. Buick is unnecessary as mentioned above. GMC is COMPLETELY unnecessary.
They need to look at what will REALLY help them clean house and become whole again, not the brands that they have nostalgia towards and don't want to see die. This is the SAME senseless, sensationalist business strategy that has gotten them to where they are now. GM needs to go back to basics, period.

Holden, Vauxhall, Opel << I do believe those brands are 'separate'. GM in the overseas markets does well.

Luxo-Caddy
Mainstream-Chevy
Economy-Saturn
They IMO really need to have 3 maybe 4 trucks in the mainstream line: Subruban, Silverado, Tahoe (iffy) and the HHR. All the variations on trucks must have been a killer. Same, thin out all the duplicate or near duplicate sedans.

I would get rid of Buick and GMC, I was also going to get rid of Saturn, but reading the replies there are many good arguments for it, again going the Scion type route. So it would be Chevorlet, Cadillac, Saturn and Pontiac. I am keeping Pontiac, as the fun car part of GM, imagine a Pontiac lineup, of the G8, G8 GXP, a new monaro, a.k.a GTO, including a higher output judge version, a new firebird, and solstice, including a race ready hardcore hardtop version. So Pontiac will only offer fun to drive rear wheel drive cars.

I'm not sure if getting rid of Buick is the best thing, if anything, they should just push over all of Buick to GM Asia.
As many have stated, Buick is a wildly popular brand in China--which will be the biggest market.
