Do you mean the Versa? The American-spec version is on my future review list..........but it will be awhile.

Fortunately, most non-Americans aren't as big or heavy as we are here in the U.S.
Yeah but surely 6 non-Americans will still bog down the Mazda5 with the 2.0 litre engine.

We did fine going up to Yosemite with 4 adults and some luggage. Gas mileage is steller too! Oh and you shortchanged the engine .3 liters.

Maybe not. He was talking about non-American-spec versions, with possibly smaller engines.

Really? Good to know. How was the mpg? We got similar mileage to our 4 cylinder Camry around town. No highway driving. Other countries get a 2.0 litre option and no automatic option. All Mazda Premacys are 5-spd manuals with a 2.0 litre engine (quite possibly the same 2.0 litre in the Mazda3)

Yeah I was. I think it was 2.0 litres.

Great review, great car. This is the "old Honda" type car. I-4, small compared to others, quirky and quite good. This car bucks trends and I think its really more than enough for families. Of course people just think bigger is better and buy based on that.

Mazda has a great product line and I wish consumers would cross shop them more.

Mike, did you think the price was fair? Do you think 200hp would help?

I might be wrong but I distinctly remember being over 29MPG. Mind you this happened in May so I'm just going off memory.

Yes, the price was definitely fair. The engine, as you note, could use 200 HP, but, more importantly, torque.....148 ft-lbs, IMO, is not enough, in this car, for loads in hilly country.
