Learner drivers can take some comfort after a large group of Malaysia driving instructors has just bombed out in a snap driving exam.
A worrying 65 per cent of Malaysian driving instructors failed a surprise Driving Theory test held by the country's State road department.
Close to 400 instructors took the surprise exam at a seminar in Perak and only 35 per cent passed, said state road department director Mohamad Yasir Mastakim.
It was the same test the public takes to qualify for a driver's licence, with 50 multiple choice questions and a passing score of 42.
Mohamad Yasir said the instructors who failed would be given a refresher course and not penalised, a luxury probably not extended to their students.
He also said the department would follow up with surprise driving tests soon. Hopefully they all fare better on the road.

I went to Penang a few months back for work. I am still in awe at the driving habits of Malaysian drivers. They don't drive in their lanes but on the center line. It allows 4-5 cars to fit in a space where 2 are supposed to fit! Throw in the shatty roads, speeding and dodging of scooter riders (must be 30-40% of commuters) and you have a recipe for chaos.
I'm not surprised. I bet those instructors are great drivers in that madness though.

driving licenses mean nothing over there...you can probably just buy your license...HOWEVER, if you suck at driving no matter how good your exam results are, you will be stuck at home

LOL im not surprised either...
I lived in KL back in 2000. I was just a kid then, but my parents were so freaked out by all the ****astic driving they hired someone to drive for them. When ever you are in Malaysia look out for drivers with a big red "P" on the back of their car. It signifies a learning driver
