Smile Why is that Porsche full leather seats expensive?

There are five different leather options. Regular or full leather. Moreover, where the Porsche leather supplier from? $2000 - $4000 price gap from regular leather seats to the full leather. I thought, Porsche automaker charges too much their leather seats. Is it made in Germany leather? Give me an answer, please?

I don't know where the leather comes from but full leather means dash ,door panels, A-pillars, everything and depending on which model it is mostly Alcantera which looks like suede.

Nothing is inexpensive on a Porsche. NOTHING.

I'm sorry if that sounds like an overly-simplistic answer, but it is a fact. Even if not of particularly high quality (most of them, of course, are quality-made), Porsche parts are big $$$$$$$. If you want to see some real cash, check out what a replacement Porsche engine or transmission costs, especially for the turbo models.

Someone posted an article recently that said Porsche makes $28k per vehicle. I think that explains why Porsche leather is so expensive.

Well, they're also a relatively small company, and cater primarily to a market of upper-income and well-heeled customers. Their cars are not meant to be low-quality, cheaply made appliances like, say, your typical Dodge.....and they are not owned and driven by the average soccer-mom either.

Porsche doesn't trick people, they deliver the best cars in their segment. When you have the best you can afford to mark-up certain areas and people will pay for it because there simply isn't a substitute. Typically, Porsche owners want high end and are willing to pay for it without inspecting the price tag too closely. It is good to be Porsche!

The leather that the highend OEM companies uses is ridiculously quality and its cost reflects that. Cow's form farms with no barbed wire and all these other things so the skin is never damaged. If you can get a hook on OEM leather hide's it's still expensive. 2 hide's was $1,200 for OEM mercedes leather. Let's just say porsche isn't making that 28k a car from the leather.

That's why they make 15,000 - 20,000 profit per car.

High vehicle profits aren't just limited to Porsches, either. Ford and GM, for a number of years (until gas prices went through the roof), made big profits on full-size SUV's......8-10K in many cases. If you can charge what the market will bear (as Porsche does, and as the high demand for big SUVs in America once generated), you can make high profits despite high production costs.

They make more money on each unit that any other car company. Sounds like the normal German car service gripe. Nothing new.

Lets say you want to go racing with a car you could also drive on the street every day and you also want to win, perhaps even dominate. Who would you choose to build your car & would you not expect to pay more than anyone else charged to build the car? Accept no substitute!

Talk about markup, I looked at a Rolls Royce a while back and they have a $300 option for an umbrella. The more expensive the car, the more expensive the options, put probably not a huge difference compared to the price of the car.

Actually it's only about 40,000 people a year, that helps explain the high costs. No economy of scale to spread R&D costs over 100,000 units
