Default Da..Da..Da...Another one bites the Dust :P

Steve walks warily down the street,
With the brim pulled way down low
Aint no sound but the sound of his feet,
Machine guns ready to go
Are you ready, are you ready for this
Are you hanging on the edge of your seat
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
To the sound of the beat

Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, Im gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust

How do you think Im going to get along,
Without you, when youre gone
You took me for everything that I had,
And kicked me out on my own

Are you happy, are you satisfied
How long can you stand the heat
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
To the sound of the beat

Chorus

Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
There are plenty of ways you can hurt a man
And bring him to the ground
You can beat him
You can cheat him
You can treat him bad and leave him
When hes down
But Im ready, yes Im ready for you
Im standing on my own two feet
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
Repeating the sound of the beat

Samurai Speed has obviously tested Nissan's notoriously finicky Launch Control over 100 times without a single hiccup... until now. The $20,000 tranny recently took a dirt nap on the drag strip with the cameras rolling, and we have video of the carnage after the jump.

You can't hear the tranny fail on account of the other GT-R at the line, but onlookers said the nuclear transmission sounded like a "bunch of metal dominoes in a line and Tiger Woods came by and hit them with his driver." Ouch. It's pretty obvious that Nissan won't be picking up the warranty tab for this GT-R, so Samurai Speed plans to beef up the transmission on its own dime in an effort to continue cranking out incredible times.

The video info says they made over 100 launches on the tranny..that sounds pretty strong to me.

And modified engine.
Now if it was a stock one with 1-3 launches and it blows then we have something to talk about but this could happen to any modified car launched 100 times. How many times can you clutch dump your car or neutral bomb your car before the transmission calls it quits? That's saying a lot about a 600hp AWD vehicle with over 100 launches.

If the GTR came with a manaul transmission and lots of people complained about a burnt clutch after some launches no one would care.

$20,000 for a tranny? are they serious? it's a 70k car not considering any markup.

I think some money's going back and forth between Honda(or ZF or New Venture Gear) and Nissan for trannies. Nissan's Jatco autos or in-house manual trannies are pretty good ones. The only Japanese automaker that can't seem to make a good tranny nowadays is Honda - their V6 auto trannies have a low MTBF, and there's all sorts of bugs in the Civic Si 6-speed.

I spoke to a family member who is in Nissan corporate and they said that they will NOT be getting rid of the launch control , but there may be a TSB for some of the transmissions. She didnt seem llike the problem with the transmissions was wide spread. She is a regional sercive manager for Nissan . she knows whats up

Apparently not. Nissan officially had a statement saying that there will be no more LC for 2010MY.

I can only find info about this on no Nissan forums. I am still not sure if its just trash taking or the real thing. It doesnt make sense that they would take as they did to design the car and they will give 4 tenths of a second because of a design flaw. the japanese are usually more resourceful than this. Worse case scenario I can just add an intake and titanium exhaust to gain alot of that loss back. I will believe it when I read it in the road and track or EVO magazine I guess. I thank you for the info but I am keeping my idealistic fingers crossed for Godzilla. I still think its really funny to see how many american car and german car forums are filled with discussions of the GTR

0-60 times are all about acceleration and grip. With an intake and exhaust you're not gonna get the same gains in the 0-60 as you would with a launch control system.

Launch control is lame anyway, drag racing < track.

That was an unconfirmed statement. It was not an official one.

some insight:
-removal of lc is not yet confirmed, seems likely but not confirmed
-the above car was making a lot more power than stock, and was consistent 10 sec car. best run was 10.53, before that 10.55.
-60ft was 1.4X as they were running DRs while using LC
-they knew the risk they were taking and wanted to see where it would go
-they have new gears on order

is the tranny the weakest link? so far it looks so. but those of you who know about skyline gt-rs also know that they arent like supras and dont do big #s on stock bottom end, stock tranny. just how nissan does things. as always, the aftermarket is bringing out a lot of parts so we'll see where it goes.

there's another school of thought/work coming that will attempt to upgrade power and better the #s just without using LC...
