2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe: World-class ride... Would you buy it?
#16
I hate the fact that it is such a pig, but I would buy it (I4 turbo version). Not over a proper IS coupe, but that doesn't exist does it.
Ignoring price, I would not consider it over the 3er or G, but factoring in price...just maybe.

it's gonna be tough for hyundai.
if it's priced the same as the 370Z, I'll take the Z no question.
in order to sell, it has to undercut the Z and the G by a good margin, and provide equal features.

I would consider it used a few years from now as a beater maybe. I do find it attractive. Im sure those who drive it will love it, but its not the class of car I'm looking at right now.

My 2cents might be different as I actually owned a Hyundai in the 1990s and the spiritual successor to the Genesis 2.0 Turbo. I had a Hyundai Scoupe Turbo.
No need to rehash but it was the biggest pile of dinosaur dung you could buy and the dealerships were awful. It was so bad, it pretty much drove me to Lexus and wanting a super reliable car.
Now I am very well aware Hyundai has turned quality and dealer service around and I can recommend their products. I am still stinging from that sorry *** Scoupe they sold me.
The thing is, I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY like this Genesis coupe. Modable, LSD, Brembos, surely an attractive price and I think it looks fantastic.

That's part of what went wrong at Toyota. So many people simply kept buying their products in huge numbers, especially the Camry, without really LOOKING at what they were getting, that the gradual decline in overall quality went unchecked. Today, with a few exceptions, the overall solidity of Toyota products...especially the interior materials.....cannot compare with that of the mid 90's or so, when they built some of their best products.
At Mercedes, of course, that was even more the case...the three-pointed star enthralled so many people that the electronic and hardware quality on their vehicles went to hell, and people still kept buying them.
At Hyundai, it is the opposite. Too many people are simply living in the past, and don't understand that with Hyundai and Kia, the bad old days are long gone.
Look at Mike (1SICKLEX), for example.....he (correctly) understands things as they are TODAY. He got burned, years ago, with one of Hyundai's worst line of products....the first/second generation Excel models (the Scoupe was just an Excel with a sportier 2-door body). It managed, at the time, to win the Pikes' Peak Hill Climb, but in general, was a poorly-built car for street use, comparable to Pintos and Vegas of the early 70's. But he can appeciate Hyundai for what it is today.
It should also be mentioned, for those that are not aware of it, that the first and genond-generation Excels that were so poorly built and gave owners so much trouble were not true Hyundai products to start with, but rebadged versions of the Mitsubishi Precis, even with Mitsubishi drivetrains in them (so, Mike, you were actually driving a Mitsubishi ).

I'd rock it before getting an infiniti G coupe. However I would not take it over the BMW 3-series and the IS-C. Reason is Hyundai's goal is to market this car as a sports coupe. The BMW still wins in this category (excluding price) and as far as the IS-C goes, I see it more as a luxury vehicle. If I was looking for luxury, I'd get the IS-C out of the group. If I wanted ***** out sportiness, then the BMW wins. However, the genesis is still high on my car list and I would get it over many many cars out on the road right now.

I'd never consider this over a 370Z if this came even within 4k of the 370. I'm also not feeling how they ripped off the G's styling. If I want a G37 I'll get a G37, not something that looks like one.

With the new Nissan 370Z, I wouldn't consider any other sports car under $35,000, except Mazda MX-5 Miata but that is a roadster.
