The BMW 1 series is considered an entry-level model, too.

This was something I posted up in the November Sales thread. This is a look at the mid-level luxury market since the Lincoln MKS and Hyundai Genesis have been released, but now updated with December sales numbers.
Code:
Genesis MKS M GS A6 S80 STS RL E-Class 5-Series Dec. 1,040 2,100 1,194 1,200 1,218 959 907 245 3,464 3,699 Nov. 1,151 1,958 1,186 721 717 844 630 234 2,264 2,927 Oct. 1,121 2,072 1,193 819 758 424 632 272 2,098 3,958 Sep. 1,029 1,814 1,077 977 1,090 578 856 259 2,968 2,423 Aug. 1,177 2,374 1,221 1,686 1,520 576 975 316 2,681 5,287 July 619 2,279 970 1,297 929 745 1,079 532 4,938 4,525

Don't know why the A6 and E had a big jump but Lexus had the annual December "event" so that explains why the GS. Those sales numbers further proved the statement I made last month about the identical sales trend (read: not numbers) of the A6 and GS, which I don't have an explanation for.

Welcome to Clublexus!
RX300-BV , thanks for the data.
We should note the Genesis and MKS have an asking MSRP way lower than anything else in that class. A loaded MKS pretty much starts where many of those models are especially in V-8 guise.
Everyone had a good jump (Holiday sales?) except the RL, which no one wants.

Oh boy, throwing a little fuel on the fire. The redesigned RL didnt reach dealerships until July or August. Right when sales tumbled from its already ridiculously low 532 models sold in July. Then the credit crisis hit etc etc.
Coincidence? Maybe, but doubtful. I'll let yall come to your own conclusions.

while there may not have been advertised specials on the GS, i have no doubt dealers were blowing out '08s and trying to have a good end of year number (with lots of incentives to do so).
genesis on the other hand, while promising, still isn't a huge part of hyundai sales, but impressively steady in this HORRIBLE market.

Amazingly I saw my first new RL on the road yesterday, silver too as the owner assumed it could again, hide the beak. The guy inside looked like he was bout 90. As soon as I passed it I messed around and looked in the rearview mirror and saw....
the front end.
I threw up right away, lost control of my car and nearly hit a tree. It should be illegal for such ugly vehicles to be on the road.

Acura has a beak and boattail rear. Wowie.
Almost as bad as the past (just a few years ago) Subarus when they tried to do the Edsel nose on all their cars, what a lame flop that was.

The new TLs are pretty bad. I have yet to see a refreshed RL on the road though. I have noticed a lot of new 08 TLs on the road though. I realize this is because they're probably discounting hard to make room for the 09s, but if that many people are going to the dealer and not being swayed by the 09s it is a reason for concern.

Canada puts smiles on Toyota faces
By Keith Morgan, The Province
January 9, 2009
Toyota likely wishes its Canadian sales trends were universal -- then it wouldn't be recording its first worldwide loss since its formation.
Toyota Canada achieved its best-ever sales year in 2008: Canadians drove away in 224,158 Toyota and Lexus vehicles -- up 11.3 per cent from 2007, setting a second straight year of sales more than 200,000.
Toyota sales of 209,157 were up 11.3 per cent from 2007 and represent the first time the Toyota brand has sold more than 200,000 vehicles here in a single year, while also exceeding 2007 combined Lexus and Toyota sales of 201,326. Lexus sales of 15,001 vehicles were up 12 per cent versus 2007.
Among these sales numbers are some solid cars-made-in-Canada successes: 57,736 Toyota Corollas, up 42.6 per cent; 23,549 Toyota Matrix models, up 10.2 per cent; 20,522 Toyota RAV4s, up 25.7 per cent, and 4,841 Lexus RX 350s, up 28.9 per cent.
Hybrid sales were dramatic: 4,458 Toyota Prius liftbacks sold, up 72.5 per cent.
But that pales in comparison with the sale of 1,523 Toyota Highlander Hybrid crossovers, an amazing 159.9-per-cent rise, and 1,380 Lexus RX 400h luxury hybrid crossovers, up 51.8 per cent.
