Default Talk to me about the Audi S5

Thinking about getting one. How is the reliability on the audis? A long time ago I remember them having a bad rep.

This was my NUMBER ONE choice for quite a while, MMarshall did an excellent review of one. In the end, spoke to some owners, and there are some reliability issues and I did not like the attitude/lack of urgency/misinformation I received from 2 different Audi dealers. Was it me? Perhaps, but when I'm dropping $60K+ on a car in a down economy, I expected a little more "sucking up"

Beautiful car, rather rare (only seen one other in my town so far), but the IS-F was a better ride for me (for one) and although it's not completely out of the picture (my purchase won't be until at least spring), the "salesmenship" left me with a little sour taste. But that's me. The car... I love it!!! Tremendous ride and handling, IMO overall finish better than BMWs and MBs I was looking at. I considered price, reliability, mileage, interior space, service history, practicality, longevity, resale... in the end, I found some others that were right there. In fact, it came in tied for 4th in my evaluations (behind IS-F, X5, 06 911C4 and tied 5-series), based on my needs.

I have a good associate who is a Audi fanatic and drove the S5 when it first came out in Europe. He currently has an S4 at end of lease and is considering another S4 rather than S5.... in the end, it's a strong contender! Just depends on your criteria...

Based on how I like to drive, I would too if I had more time to spend in the service shop

It's a nice cruiser, but I'd prefer to drive a car with a more sporting character like the M3. If it's replacing your Vette, I think you may be disappointed.

We have talked about this car in great detail, even owners chiming in. I can't find any links but do a search.

here's what i think, let's just say i have a bit insight.

the s5 is a very nice car, very well executed by audi. i drove the a5 and i could only imagine about the s5. the car looks great and performance is decent. quality imho is better than previous audi's and on par with bmw i say. however, the car is not cheap, a reasonably loaded one will run you over 60k for sure, around 64k i think

and that's what put this car at an "weird" place. at its price range, we have the m3 coupe, which perform far better than the s5. for the same performance, the 335 is much cheaper. i am not discounting the s5, it has its status imho, but dollar for dollar it makes people think, including me

on top of that, audi usually doesn't have as good lease / finance / deals as bmw or some other companies. so depending on how you want to own the vehicle, the overall payment might not be as attractive

so in short, i think the s5 is a great car, very nice. i have no problem owning one and would love to. but for the price, it does make me think twice about getting one

Audi is all about looks, and look good they do, but when it comes to performance their vehicles are over priced IMO. anyway rominl pretty much said it all.

100% agree.

Just look at the A4 and compare it to the competitors... 'Nuff said.
