2010 Pontiac G8 ST Sport Truck Killed
Industry sources have told PickupTrucks.com that the 2010 Pontiac G8 ST sport truck has been killed. GM made the announcement to its dealers during a broadcast this morning.
Based on Australia's Holden VE Ute, the G8 ST was slated to go on sale in the U.S. this fall.
Last month, Susan Docherty, vice president of Buick-Pontiac-GMC, said GM would pare down Pontiac's inventory from six products now to three or fewer by 2012. Docherty said then that the review process would include a second look at whether or not it made sense to import the G8 ST.
The decision is likely to disappoint some truck enthusiasts and coupe utility buyers who were looking forward to a modern-day El Camino, which ended production in 1988.

That would have been a strange vehicle. Not my taste. Wonder why Pontiac even considers designs like this? I'm not even too sure if the Holden version is that popular in Australia.
Why can't GM just build something people want to buy, instead of something that would only be selective to a very limited audience?

I remeber when the GTO came out, I went to a local dealership to see it. I didnt even have the guy start the thing up. I looked at the interior and thanked him for his time

I remember seeing it at the NYC Auto Show last April. I liked it, but knew Pontiac would have a hard time finding owners. Like all things retro, it will cater to those who loved the original, but once that nostalgia wears off, sales usually TANK!!! (Thunderbird, Pt Cruiser, SSR, etc)
It was a smart move for GM to can it. Its not needed. Even the regular G8 sedan is having trouble selling, and that vehicle IMO is the result of a great effort by GM.

Can't say I'm going to shed a tear about them killing off the sport truck. Kinda looked cool, but it sounds like something that wouldn't sell. A good move for Pontiac/GM in this day and age.

We may eventually see it but Im sure right now GM is just holding out until after the bankruptcy and restructure to release new products, and besides the G8 is the most unique Pontiac, everything else is a rebadge, a Chevy G8 does not seem far fetched

What GM should probably do is simply transfer the design to Chevy, and bring it back as the El Camino, which was sold from 1959 to 1988. It had a 30-year production run (which showed that the customers were there), far longer than the competitor Ford Ranchero, which was brought in and out again in several different forms.
