Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced a new limited-production Nissan GT-R SpecV model, which goes on sale at seven specially selected Nissan dealers throughout Japan on February 2, 2009. The GT-R SpecV is targeted specifically at enthusiast drivers who desire race car-level performance in a street-legal vehicle.
Developed around the multi-dimensional Nissan GT-R sports car, which was introduced just more than one year ago to universal global acclaim, the new SpecV model builds on the original's ''ultimate supercar that anyone can enjoy driving anywhere, at anytime'' philosophy - taking it to an entirely new level of ''oneness between man and machine.'' The SpecV model includes unique body, interior and performance equipment and modifications, raising the GT-R's unmatched performance to even higher levels.
The GT-R SpecV's new exterior features include a carbon fiber rear spoiler, a carbon fiber grille, and carbon fiber brake ducts. The SpecV is available exclusively in Ultimate Black Opal (RP) body color. Inside, the SpecV's unique two-seat interior (non-SpecV GT-R models also include a two-place rear seat) offers special Recaro carbon fiber bucket seats, while carbon fiber insets embellish the rear center storage box, instrument panel and other trim areas.
Performance is enhanced with a new high gear boost control device, which momentarily increases boost of the engine's twin turbochargers for greater torque in the intermediate-to-high speed ranges to provide a more powerful feeling of acceleration, while also allowing the engine to operate at a lower speed for improved fuel economy. Other modifications include a titanium-coated exhaust system and carbon-ceramic brakes that provide powerful stopping performance.
The GT-R SpecV is also equipped with lightweight, racing-style forged aluminum wheels that were developed for this model and have been sold by Nissan Motorsports International (NISMO) since September 2008. The lighter unsprung weight provided by the new wheels, together with the enhanced braking capability, an exclusive suspension and high-grip tires, combine to deliver the SpecV's exceptional performance.
The SpecV will be sold at the following seven dealer outlets, each of which is staffed by mechanics with special GT-R SpecV training and who are knowledgeable of racing circuit driving.

I really dig this car and really don't like Nissan because of the pure service.
On paper this thing is sick, so what's with all the warrenty issues on the trans. Has any of that been corrected? It's allot to pay for a car that has any issues at all.

New GT-R Spec V
Did you guys hear about this? I didn't see what the new hp and tq numbers will be but I'll be searching by the time many of you all see this. Check the link for pics.

Here is some infor I found:
According to our source, the Spec V will be to the GT-R what the Porsche GT3 RS is to the 911. It will be significantly lighter than the base car — we hear by at least 220 lb. Extensive use of carbon fiber — on the hood, rear wing, front spoiler and doors — will help the GT-R weigh in at about 3600 lb. The interior may come standard with a rollcage or structural brace like the one in the original GT-R Concept, as well as carbon-fiber Recaro front seats.

There were reports that Nissan engineers contemplated deleting the air-conditioning unit from the package, but decided against it, keeping in mind that not everyone who buys this car will convert it into a racing machine. But this should be enough to tell you that the GT-R Spec V is a serious performance car, one mainly intended for the track. New lightweight 6-spoke wheels will help you distinguish it from the base GT-R.
We also uncovered that the Spec V's 3.8-liter V-6 will pump out about 520 bhp at 6500 rpm and 435 lb.-ft. of torque from 3200 to 5200, roughly a 10-percent increase from the base engine. The extra oomph comes by increasing the boost of the turbochargers.
Combine this added power with the car's lighter weight and you have a machine that'll be so fast it's downright scary. Zero to 60 mph will be near 3 seconds flat...on a cool day on an ideal driving surface, it may even break into the 2s. The quarter-mile mark will be right around 11.0 sec.
As for price, let's just say that extensive use of carbon fiber will definitely have an effect. The projected MSRP of the GT-R Spec V is $120,000.

As others have said I'd change the wheels before I took it home from the dealer. Is the 120K price worth it? You the increase in power of 520 hp and 435 tq...plus the weight reduction of 220 lbs from the regular GT-R?
In this league...it's worth it imo. I'm sure that if Nissan says it's 520 hp it's really somewhere around 550 hp.
Mainly, you'd have a car that is more exclusive plus the sheer power of an exotic, with semi-exotic looks. Yeah, I'd hit it.
As for the tranny issues someone mentioned....I heard Nissan is discontinuing the launch control feature that's causing all the problems. I hear that people who use the LC only sometimes have no problems with the tranny. The racers and show-offs are the culprit. However, Nissan shouldn't have installed something that couldn't withstand abuse without a warning. SO tranny issues are no longer a problem for future models.
