Please tell me I'm not crazy regarding the C63

Please tell me that I'm not crazy. I went to a local Mercedes dealership in the L.A. area and they had a black C63 in the show room. Sticker was $65,--- and then there was a $20,000 mark up. When I told them that was a total turn off, I was told that is what they are going for. This is totally different from what I hear where some are getting them for 3K below sticker. But I was told that "they could do something about that". Ugh.
Next, they try to steer me towards a used C63 with less than 1,000 miles on it but with over 150 miles of "test drives" on it. I'm sure these "test drives" are not all civil drives. Then I was told that I am wrong to think that people (and the employee I'm sure) have abused their "test drives". Call me crazy but that mark up and the idea of civil test drives are totally nuts. I know that can not be "what it is going for nowadays" or am I just incorrect.

The 6.3L engine can handle abuse, it was meant for it... who would pay the premium and granny their C-AMG?
No dealer markup for the C63 where I live, I have seen a dealer markup for the IS-F though. So its not typical dealer arrogance, and if so its not only secluded to Benz.

At this point in life, if I walk into a dealership and even get a "whiff" of the old "Well, we can do this...", or sense ANY price issue, I'm gone... way too many other dealerships...

the local mb dealership is dealing on these so they can be had for under invoice. A coworker just got one but I believe he paid invoice, but I would never pay 20k markup on this car.

I agree....I wouldn't screw around with that either, but most dealerships, in general, don't put on that second sticker, wth a mark-up, unless they think (or are pretty sure) that they can get it from market demand. Yes, you, as a private car-shopper, can ignore it and say you won't pay it, but if the "I-Gotta-Have-It" Bozo who walks in the door right behind you says HE will pay it (as often happens with new/popular redesigns and hot-selling vehicles), then why should the dealership bargain with you? In general, they are going to sell to the highest bidder...or to someone who accepts the mark-up.

That's OK (in some cases I agree with it), but, in general, a better way is to try and estimate the dealer's cost/invoice as close as possible, add a couple of percentage points for profit and the sales commission (that's only fair.....those guys have to eat, too), and then bargin UP.
The VW/Subaru place, for example, where I got my Outback lets many, if not most of their vehicles go for around 3% over invoice or so. Some dealerships also have no-dicker, pre-discounted Internet pricing.....I also like that system where it is available.

Report them to Lexus. They can lose their "Elite" status, among other things. "Market adjustments" are a big no-no for Lexus dealers.
