the bottom line is that you get NO class from any of these cars. lol

20K doesnt buy you a lot of class. it doesnt however buy you a lot of utility and practicality

I disagree a bit. There's nothing unheard of a car in this price range having elements of "class" and elequently done styling elements. My example:

Taut, european, tastefull application of chrome around all sides of car.

LED tail lamps flanked with circular LED amber turn signals. The logo also pushes in to open trunk. Functional and elegant. Notice how chrome wraps around the rear. Nicely sculpted side panels.

top rate interior. Easily trumps Camry/Accord/Altima.

Final classy touch.

When discussing mainstream family sedans reliability is a BIG factor.

Doesn't seem to be hurting them in every other market but the United States. But you are correct, sir. Just as the way the car drives is a BIG factor in Europe.

Exactly.

I posted the price comparison before for the Passat, it costs about as much as a G sedan.

So for about the same price I get to choose between a G or Passat...

DANG IT, that's a tough choice!!!

Actual '08 sales of these mainstream family sedans reveal what NA buyers in this segment prefer:

436,617 Camry
372,789 Accord
91,436 Jetta
24,375 Passat

This list doesn't include Altima, Malibu, Fusion etc. all of which sell well into 6 fgiures annually.

the way car drives is only big on internet forums in europe... reality is quite different, and difference between cars is a lot less than what mags write about.

in europe, brand loyality and brand name is by far superior to any other choices.

i just came from two day sampling of all mid sized european market competitors, and passat was considered, by far, the worst car in the group that consisted of Avensis, Mondeo, Mazda6, Passat, Octavia, Euro Accord, Renault Laguna, Citroen C5... next worst was Mondeo, and those are best 2 cars according to most european media... Mondeo was worst handler despite being louded as the best by media :-).

And yeah, you guys are missing out on C5 big time... aside from back seat issues, it would be freaking awesome vehicle for NA.

Precisely why the 2.5L should have been used in the HS (with Atkinson cycle) even if it meant that the car would have to be delayed. The 2.4L has been around for a long time and isn't exactly the model of efficiency or power. In this case it looks as if Ford has the better hand on Toyota.

Still, still,, still hate the grill treatment on this car. I only like the hybrid version. That grill looks like what the SE SHOULD have come with.
