The logo doesn't make a statement like the Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus logos.

I don't think any of these logos is graphically better or worse than the others. If any of them makes a statement it's because of the marketing behind the mark.

The difference is the Infinity logo is not recognized as anything or any brand, could easily be confused with Toyota or Mazda logo.

For example, Mercedes star logo is instantly recognized as a Mercedes emblem, Lexus logo because of it "L" symbol is easy to associate with Lexus if only because of its alpha character.

Again. That's because of the brand associations with the logos not because of the logo itself. Tell, me. What does the Mercedes 3-pointed start represent? Or the Lexus L. Other than it's a stylized L.

Sure brand associations combined with a easy to recognize and unique logo.

And simply instantly recognized. It represents Mercedes and Lexus to most adults.

"Instantly recognized" is misnomer since you have to prove that it's instantly recognizable to everyone.

If the MB logo is instantly recognizable as the MB logo with all that's associated with it it's mostly because of the company's years of history and brand reinforcement. Lexus has done a masterful job of building a strong brand over a relatively short period of time. But the logo itself has to do with about 1/10 of a percent of that.

As to what these marks mean in and of themselves, they no more represent status and luxury any more than the Hyundai "H" logo.

About the Logos...

Would I know the tri-star is for MB if I never heard of MB before? No...
Would I know the L is for Lexus if I never heard of Lexus before? No...
Would I know the quad-ring is for Audi if I never heard of Audi before? Heck no...
Would I know the blue-and-white propeller is for BMW if I never heard of BMW before? Maybe if I look at it very closely since the B M W on it is so tiny...

Like others have said, Inifniti's logo isn't any better or worse than the rest, it's the reputation and perception that make the difference.

I agree that the best logos are backed up by years of building strong brand recognition and delivering good products, as mentioned above.

IMHO, I think the Lexus and Mercedes logos are especially unique which helps in their ease of recognition. I realize not all agree. And of course this is not something that is measurable or verifiable so it's somewhat meaningless.

Back on topic, Infiniti has done a pretty good job of building their brand in recent years.
