I found this photo of my old 86 honda civic standard. This is not my actual car , but I had this exact model( mine had a silver paint job). I looked up the hp rating on wikipedia and it said the car had a neck breaking 60 hp. Yes ladies and gentlemen 60 hp. I bought the car in 1993 with 188,000 miles on it. It was purchased so I could make the 60 mile round trip commute to UCLA. It was burning oil, needed transmission work, and was the base model 4 speed. I still loved it. used to wax it regularly and even installed a custom stereo system.
Seeing the picture made me think of how fortunate I am and how hard I have had to work to get where I am today.
What was first beater that you purchased ??????

I've been really blessed and fortunate that I never had a beater. At least I wouldn't call them beaters.
My first couple cars my parents bought for me were very nice. In 1974 I got a 69 Plymouth Satellite that was immaculte with low mile miles. It went to my brother when I graduated HS. For college I got a 1974 Monte Carlo in 77. Again with low miles and immaculate. In 1980 I totalled the car and mom got me a special edition Body by Fisher 1977 Monte Carlo. That thing was really sweet. The first I bought on my own was a brand new 1985 Nissan Sentra. Then I bought another Sentra in 1990. After that, I went to a higher level of cars but never had a beater. One of the things I thank God for, having a wonderful family.

Pretty much every car I've owned has been really cool/nice considering my age except for my very first car... a 1990 Taurus I bought from my dad. (This was in Feb 1998 when I first turned 16.
After that I had a 94 Z28... not the nicest car but a very cool car for a 16 year old. I couldn't afford the insane insurance rates though... ~350/month! Got a brand new 2000 Silverado after that and a 1995 Maxima SE 5-speed. Dunno what my logic was behind having two cars but they were both pretty cool, especially the Silverado which I had a high end audiophile grade sound system in and plenty of other nice (not autozone tack-on crap) customizations done to.
Replaced both cars with a 1999 Lexus GS that I bought with 30k miles on the clock... pretty nice to have a car like that at 20 years old. I had a good job though and cars were my priority. Then I got into leasing and driving my cars hard so I got the Audi and BMW. Basically my car habits have started off cheap and gotten more and more expensive as years went by and income went up.
Unfortunately my is my next car is most likely going to be a big downgrade. I'm considering going with a cheap used beater, or maybe a new econo car. I'm doing better than ever financially... but I've just started to care less about driving something cool and care more about setting myself, my wife, and my future kids up for a comfortable secure life in the future.

First Car : 99 Altima GXE
Result: Crashed into telephone pole in the rain at 35-40mph give or take.
Second Car : 93 Ford Taurus GL Wagon
Result: Parents got it for me to drive around. When I bought my third car, the car was resold back to them as a gift. In which they sold it for money to my stepsister.
Third Car : 94 Acura Integra LS
Result : Lost control in bad weather and veered off the road into a dirt pile. Blew the airbags out but only damaged the paint on front bumper and fender. However suspension damaged totaled it out...part out.
Fourth Car : 95 Audi 90 Sport
Result : Drove for over a year. Served as a good beater mule. Purchased for 600 in 2006. Sold for 1200 in Feb of 08.

I hated the Solara SLE V6 to death.
I adored the tC for it's ability to fit into ANY parking spot with EASE and it's regular grade fuel requirement.
But I can't complain about the luxury I'm enjoying tho

I graced this forum with my first car in previous thread.
Here's my baby!
1986 Ford Taurus
I drove it all through college, from 1992 to 1998 (pic taken the day I traded it in for $100). Yes, it is OK to laugh. As bad as it looks, you should have heard it. The last couple years I drove it you could hear the shocks squeeking from blocks away
.

As per my sig, I now have a 2006 GS430 in a nicer shade of red
. No need for pics, as it is bone stock, and you've all seen the 3GS. I might throw 17" wheels on next winter for better traction, but I don't think anyone on here will get excited to see those pics, either.
