luxury sedans in Genesis' price range are outselling it by a very wide margin.
The LS460 only sold 150 less units. Perhaps sales will pick up but if they don't then Genesis is a flop.

well it still has to make a profit. And with those low sales numbers I doubt it's going hit the break-even point.

Nissan sold 2,646 units of the new gen Maxima in January. The price of a new Maxima gets up into the Genesis range.

I don't think you relate Hyundai moving upmarket to VW trying to do the same thing. I'd consider the fact that vwag has a lot more "experience" building super-premium luxury sedans (just look at their brand portfolio). The Phaeton was a shared platform with the Bentley Continental, remember, and it wasn't a complete flop in Europe, just n. America. I just don't think you could compare the two. The Genesis, for instance, is a great automobile, but everybody knows in the back of their minds it's mildly inferior to similarly sized Lexus/Mb/bmw/audi models. The Phaeton was different, it did actually compete, and had a price tag to warrant it.

actually the whole exhaust sticking out the bumper was first seen on the 03 phaeton and a8 w12 models. And it wasn't a concept, it was being sold.

genesis's sales went up steadily almost every month. all the commercials and rebates will help the sales. i think hyundai can hit their goal.

but people needs to see it more on the road. i only see couple of them a week. it takes time. 370z posted little less than 1100 last month as well.

The new Hyundai Equus has been unveiled in advance of its Geneva release. Hyundai showed off the Equus to several dozen journalists, releasing a few photos to boot.

Hyundai's luxury sedan hit the market in the late 1990s as a Mitsubishi-designed executive vehicle, that was also sold in Korea as a limo. It was not a worldwide vehicle, having been sold mainly in Korea, parts of the Middle East, and China, with a few exported to Europe. The vehicle received a facelift in 2003.

The new generation Equus has two engine choices, including a 3.8-liter V6 and a 366 horsepower 4.6-liter V8. At the event, they compared the power figures with the Lexus LS460L and the Mercedes-Benz S350L. Brimming with confidence, they even let journalists test drive all three cars at their own event, just to demonstrate the Equus' abilities to compete with more established luxury sedans. Some of the available equipment will include LED-lined headlights, oversized fog lights, dual exhaust, lane assist, a new computer system that analyzes data from the entire chassis, and pre-crash seatbelts.

The new Hyundai Equus will now have a further reach, likely getting a U.S. launch as the Genesis Prestige.
It is expected to receive the attention of the worldwide media at the Geneva Motor Show. At the same time, it goes on sale in Korean dealerships as of 3 March.

They are related. Both companies were/are known for cheaper products and both are trying to move upmarket with solid efforts. I am fully aware of how the Phaeton was built and always said it is a true luxury car. However VW had NO experience building a luxury car.

The GEnesis and Phaeton/Passat W8 share the same problem with many consumers. The badge.
