I was just looking at one of these at the Bimmer dealership near my house.

They're fun looking, definitely better with the roof off.

yep... agree 100%!!! The interior is actually real nice.. it isnt dated...

There was actually a black z8 alpina here a couple weeks ago... before i got my point and shoot. now.. that was a gorgeous car. according to the techs, the alpina is actually more reliable than this one.... this one they say is a nightmare and a half to maintain.

That thing lasted all of maybe 2 minutes . Its a large Z4. For te money people wanted to look a bit higher end than an SL sized Z4. To much cash for to little flash

lmao @ ppl who says its a large Z3/Z4

this is one of the greatest collector's car now

value of them previously plummeted due to aluminum frame bending problems
but now their resale value shot up from 80k to over 100k for a decently clean one

ive always loved the Z8 and according to my old man, it handles like a dream (hes driven his friend's Z8 in germany quite a few times)

id love to get my own Z8 one day as a collector's item
they are beautiful with the top down and showing off that red interior

there is no way that is one of the greatest collector cars. Its not a collector car, and it does ,even to a woman in her 40's ,look like a really big z3. I am not referring to the performance of the car at all. all I am saying is that the rich who were supposed to go for this car spent the money on an AMG benz or ferrari 360. BMW killed that thing very very quickly. I like how you lightly brushed over the fact that the car had structural/production issues.

Look at the car on wikipedia. Its known for handling like crap mainly, no LSD... oh yeah there was also that annoying frame bending issue. How can they even call it a real sports car with no LSD

what i meant is for cars in this era, this is becoming one of the greatest collector's car

i wouldnt buy it to drive it daily
but for occasional showing and such, there shouldnt be any structural problems

i believe the problem was that the shock towers got deformed due to riding over deep potholes with hard run flat tires
but BMW had some fix for them in the form of strut tower braces and such iirc

I too was looking at these the other day and realized that the resale value HAS been shooting up on these things. I've always thought this car looks HOT HOT HOT, and I really dont' see how anyone could think this looks like a Z3/Z4. It looks NOTHING like a Z3/Z4. It's such a classic design with a beautiful interior and I can definitely see this becoming a collector car.

It is a collectors item. Not many of them were produced... It was featured as a bond car I believe. It is a love it hate it type of design. As with most bimmers. I really like this one ESP topless.

This one did not come with the red interior. I think the alpina (the more reliable and more expensive one) came with the red interior.
Just saw that one as I said a couple weeks ago.

Nobody said reliability was a requirement for being a collectors item.

It was designed by Henrik Fisker fyi and we know he can design cars very well. It never really caught on as a "must have" though and didn't do great in reviews. They also have some quality issues, like "shock towers" that could deform (BMW sent a kit out to fix years later). There are also quite a few owners that are peeved b/c the chassis has flexed.

Overall, I think its great they made a new version of the 507 but its never really been on my list of "cars to have".
