The W124 was actually the 300 E worked by AMG. They called it the AMG Hammer. It had close to 400hp, did 0-60 in 5 sec, and Road & Track Magazine said , in 1987, that the Hammer was a "4 door that drives like a Testarossa?
Yes, thank you for explaining what it is by quoting some source. The W124 IMO is one of THE best sedans ever built. To take out that engine and stuff in a bigger engine...drool. I love how they took a sledgehammer approach to make this car.
Also about the CL and SL black series....I think they're two completely different animals. I haven't even ridden in either of them but from my experience in the S class and reviews of the SL black series, one seem more of a sports car whereas the CL is more of a GT car.
AMG has come a long way QUICKLY. What was a seperate company was bought by Benz and what was one model is now the most complete lineup of performance cars around. From wagons, to sedans, to coupes to convertibles to SLRs, AMG is THE performance factory tuning house. They outpower exotics and are Daily Drivers.
although I like the Porsche built W124 500E and W201 Cosworth over that
PS: Just in case, it's a "Hammer".
I have a 92e 500e and the car is amazing. Though in comparison to todays AMG cars its slow with only 322hp it was a rocket and still draws attention today.
Guess the moral of this is......even with the F division, Toyota is so far behind that it will never catch up in providing good-reliable-what people want- performance!?
Every time I swing by the MB dealership to look at their SUV's...I always have to devote some time to drool over the CLS63. Timeless beauty with silly power.
