Most likely, the fleet sales were way down because not as many people are travelling now and renting cars. So, rental car companies have little incentive to replace some of their older cars. Taxi companies are probably not as affected as much as rental firms, because people need cabs all the time, but Chrysler products are not widely sought after by cab drivers and cab companies because of their rather poor build quality.
Taxi drivers around here are buying lots of hybrids, favorite being the Prius. In city traffic driving thousands of miles per month they like the cost/mile. I rode in the backseat of one recently and comfort was adequate for 2.

Yes, I went to pick up a rental car at the SJ airport a couple of months ago, the place was stuffed with rental cars parked everywhere. I had never seen so many idle rental cars in one place.

The sales results just confirmed my casual observations a couple of months ago.

Yes, SJ rental car area is a mess and has been for a long time, don't expect to improve until the airport project is finished. Obviously the poor fleet sales results are becoming apparent in this setting too and it was more packed than usual.

I know the economy is in bad shape but LOL at those numbers.
Is a redesigned X3 on the way to justify the low numbers?
Code:
Sales BMW of North America, LLC, January 2009 YTD YTD Jan. 09 Jan. 08 % Jan. 09 Jan. 08 % ------------------ ----- ------ ----- ----- ------ ----- X3 394 1,091 -63.9% 394 1,091 -63.9% X6 266 0 N/A 266 0 N/A ----------------- ----- ----- --- ----- ----- ---
Does anybody have info on where bimmer is on supply of the new 7? I am assuming the pipeline for the old model is about dry but it doesn't look like the new one is really here yet. Can't say I've gone to the bimmer shop to see where they are but the new 7 was maybe tops of my list. At least until I read about the 5GT.
Genesis 1,056 - respectable. Don't know why I don't think it is great but it is very good especially when you take the current climate into effect. I know this is OT but I have to wonder about the Volt strategy (and hopes) seeing what is going on with the Prius which I still think will be the better all around vehicle.

We also took a GLK out yesterday. Imho, the X3 is a much better vehicle than the Benz.

Wow, IMHO I wouldn't own the dated X3 as it nears EOL/obsolescence.
But I haven't driven the new GLK, but based on your test drive, that doesn't sound too promising for Mercedes/GLK. They did a solid job on the 08 C-class, and the strong sales are there. But the puny premium SUV class hasn't shown any big sales numbers yet for anybody.

Lexus might or might not hit the 200,000 mark for 2009 but Lexus will sell more vehicles than BMW and Mercedes Benz...

As I said the new TL will fail, its horrid, period. This is a brand new 09 model that can't outsell its own smaller brother who has nearly half the sales goal. The older ES AND IS outsold the TL as well as most anything else that matters.
The CC and Genesis are doing well at 1k last month. The Genesis does that solid it seems. MAxima sales are good too as its the price of entry level luxury cars.
THankfully the IS has the "C" coming. The G37 has the convertible coming.
This is just bad. Wow

Lexus has sprinted out ahead in January and I felt it was the predicting month of how this year was going to go.
