Yes, I went to pick up a rental car at the SJ airport a couple of months ago, the place was stuffed with rental cars parked everywhere. I had never seen so many idle rental cars in one place.

Taxi drivers around here are buying lots of hybrids, favorite being the Prius. In city traffic driving thousands of miles per month they like the cost/mile. I rode in the backseat of one recently and comfort was adequate for 2.

Supposedly air travel and rental cars have taken a 10% hit, no surprise. But I wouldn't read too much into SJ airport rental lots. That layout is such an effed up mess it is always jammed and an embarassment if you have visitors come in from out of town.

Yes, SJ rental car area is a mess and has been for a long time, don't expect to improve until the airport project is finished. Obviously the poor fleet sales results are becoming apparent in this setting too and it was more packed than usual.

The sales results just confirmed my casual observations a couple of months ago.

Forgive the OT pull. I have customers that fly into SFO rather than go put up with SJC's rental car mess.

Is a redesigned X3 on the way to justify the low numbers?
BMW wasted little time in reacting to the sales news, at least up here. I test drove an X3 yesterday and was shown the January rates and pricing. I got a call this morning stating that BMW had already dropped pricing and provided some new incentive program (I don't have the details yet).

Genesis 1,056 - respectable. Don't know why I don't think it is great but it is very good especially when you take the current climate into effect. I know this is OT but I have to wonder about the Volt strategy (and hopes) seeing what is going on with the Prius which I still think will be the better all around vehicle.
When we were on our test drives we got to talking about the 7. Our sales rep mentioned that they should have one up here within the month and would be inviting us to some big launch event for it.

We also took a GLK out yesterday. Imho, the X3 is a much better vehicle than the Benz.

Wow, IMHO I wouldn't own the dated X3 as it nears EOL/obsolescence.

But I haven't driven the new GLK, but based on your test drive, that doesn't sound too promising for Mercedes/GLK. They did a solid job on the 08 C-class, and the strong sales are there. But the puny premium SUV class hasn't shown any big sales numbers yet for anybody.

In many cases they don't have a choice, international travel is very limited from SJ.

Lexus might or might not hit the 200,000 mark for 2009 but Lexus will sell more vehicles than BMW and Mercedes Benz...

As I said the new TL will fail, its horrid, period. This is a brand new 09 model that can't outsell its own smaller brother who has nearly half the sales goal. The older ES AND IS outsold the TL as well as most anything else that matters.
The CC and Genesis are doing well at 1k last month. The Genesis does that solid it seems. MAxima sales are good too as its the price of entry level luxury cars.

THankfully the IS has the "C" coming. The G37 has the convertible coming.

This is just bad. Wow

how can the TL now fail, hardly anyone even want to look at that car.

look at the LS, amazing sales number. although given it has swb, but it almost outsell the s class 2 to 1?

and what happened to the 7 series?! isn't it a new design?

TL is doing so bad, a $399 lease deal nationwide is here for it already. Dealers painting grills can't save it. The design is horrid, period and not responding with consumers, ESPECIALLY since people bought the last TL based on looks alone. The LS did double the S-class amount. Since LS leases are usually bad, it leads me to believe people BUY them too. The new 7 should be here by the spring as the new Z4 roadster.

Lexus has sprinted out ahead in January and I felt it was the predicting month of how this year was going to go.
