Thanks for the heads up on how hybrids start, I was not aware of that.

Looking at the pic, it could not be the batteries, they are under the car more towards the rear. I do wonder did someone cut the orange cord in the front you are not supposed to cut and tried to injure this man.

Again, no one is more interested in what happened than Lexus engineers. They are well aware any malfunction could possibly be a HUGE disaster to selling/promoting hybrids.

As a matter of fact other carmakers are watching as they have/are investing in hybrids.

Lets give time for the facts to come out.

On the Prius, when the POWER button is pushed, the car "boots" up. And then about a minute or so, the ICE will fire up. At this time, warm coolant in the thermos by the driver's wheel house and bumper will circulate in the engine and the engine will warm up as well as power the car if needed. Even when it's 35 degrees out, ours usuallty starts this way.

On Honda/GM hybrids, when the key is turned the IMA motor/BAS will spin the engine on - unless the hybrid battery is completely dead, Hondas have 12V starter as a backup.

CNN just states that they now believe it was a bomb in the car that set the explosion. I bet Lexus bigwigs and engineers can now breath with a sigh of relief... Don't you love how the media always has to blame SOMEONE right off the bat without any facts??

Seems like the explosion was in the engine compartment and not the batteries themselves which are in the back of the car.

Judging by the pic, in where the inverter is still INTACT - it's the silver square that says HYBRID SYNERGY DRIVE or LEXUS HYBRID DRIVE on it.
