Default Cavallino Rampante. The famous Ferrari symbol

I wanted to share some of this ferrari trivia. I was aware of these facts but I thought some others may not be aware of the origin of this famous symbol

There are several ways to tell a Ferrari from the rest of the pack. First and foremost, if you're looking at the back of the car as it leaves you in the dust, that's a pretty good sign. But the official way to tell that you're looking at one of Enzo Ferrari's pride and joys is the Cavallino Rampante, the official emblem of the Ferrari Motor Company. The emblem, consisting of a black stallion rearing up on two legs against a yellow background, headed by stripes of white, red, and green (the Italian national colors), is the one infallible sign that you're looking at a Ferrari. But the origin of the symbol pre-dates even the company's founding, with a moment in Enzo's racing past giving him the inspiration for the iconic logo.
In 1923, Enzo Ferrari won a race at Savio, and as befits a winner he was given the chance to mingle with the rich and famous in attendance. One of those was the Countess Paolina, who was the mother of war hero and flying ace Francesco Baracca. Baracca, Italy's most famous pilot from World War I, had been shot down five years earlier, and the countess, impressed by the young driver's skill, wanted to pay tribute to her lost son and also help young Enzo out. Baracca had painted a bucking stallion on the side of his fighter planes for luck, and the countess suggested to Ferrari that the horse would make a good logo for his nascent racing team. Enzo agreed, and developed the Cavallino Rampante as it exists today, using the black stallion that was painted by Baracca's mourning co-pilots and adding the yellow background in tribute to his hometown of Modena. The logo has remained in use, virtually unchanged, for the company's eighty-year history.

Ahhh...

Thank you for the clarification.

I have always wondered about that. I thought it had some weird religious reference like "Santo Ferrari" or something...

"Cavallino Rampante"

Sounds cool, even if I mispronounce it.

Good read. My favorite story is how Enzo Ferrari dissed Lamborghini and how he transitioned to a car builder from a tractor business.

Those prancing horse decals are like $3,000 each.

Ferrair has sold out, though. I wouldn't compare their newer cars to the legends of the past. Still pretty nice but way overpriced and way overrated. Nowadays Lamborghini definitely > Ferrari.

You see people going on and on about Enzo and Lamborghini, the founders. But both had very little to do with the cars we see on the road today. The best Lamborghinis came after Audi saved the company.

I agree that the better Lamborghini's are the Audi produced models. More reliable and AWD makes for a better car

I don't know if I can agree on the new ones being that much better. I quite liked the testarossa, countach & diablo. They were just so ridiculous.
