BMW fights back with tweaks to its boosted N54 motor

HP King? So what the 335i now can do a 5.4 0-60, a freaking Saturn Sky Redline will do that in 5.3 stock with 260hp out of 2.0 liters. So many other things go into a car than HP.

You can keep your Saturn's 2.0L engine and 1,000 lb less curb weight (Of course, it's a 2-seater open top roadster). That's a stock figure that's easily crushed with a $800 chip. Anyway Ive owned several BMWs and the whole "ZOMG BMW is high maintenance" is blown out of proportion. That's white people (non-car loving white people =D) taking their cars to dealers to get oil changes and such. I do all the work myself and in fact, basic maintenance is easier on a BMW than on most Honda Civics. Example? Oil filters on BMWs are easily accessible up top, right when you open the hood. They're $6/ea. online. I drove the G37 before, nice car, fast, etc... but the Lexus is so much better in terms of interior quality. That G's interior sucked.

uhhhhh the 335 a twin turbo.......right????
why is that fact not mentioned anywhere in this thread? the "great" N54 engine is nothing without them.

Advanced
335xi has the same engine as 335i, and yes - it can get upgraded with the same chips, same easy. No need to service on Dinan certified dealerships. Just remove the chip (15-20 min) and get the service on any BMW dealership.

Interesting. Why does the article say it's 306hp? BMW rates it at 300... at least they did when I got mine. Though all dyno runs indicated more like 330hp.
So my question is now if they're rating it at 326 horsepower or whatever that article's fuzzy math is leading up to... did they actually raise the power output by that much so we can expect the 335i to now have more like 350-355 horsepower, or did they simply stop under rating them by as much, OR was it a culmination of the two (a small bump plus not underrating them by as much)?
I don't subscribe to the whole theory that factory power adders are 'cheating'.
I might as well say 'yeah well if your Vette was reduced to half its 6.0 liters of displacement it would be worthless' or tell Mr Ferrari if he only had 2 valves per cylinder, or whatever.
I say it's all fair game... 'run what you brung' and stop making excuses... there are a lot of different ways to build an engine and the N54 is a great way to do it... the results (flat torque, plenty of power, easy modding, great fuel economy, etc) speak for themselves.
Same goes for the LS2, by the way... I hate it when people criticize GM's LSx engines for somehow 'cheating' by using larger displacement. They seem to ignore the fact that it's a light, cheap to build, cheap to work on, reliable engine with great fuel economy for its power, and well, of course tons of power, too.

I like the G37 but c'mon now.
In theory yeah but imagine this conversation at a meet or drag;
G37 owner "yeah I'm the king of HP"
IS 350 owner "I just beat you a few minutes ago"
335 owner "I also just beat you a few minutes ago"
G37 owner "but I'm the king of HP, it says right here in this brochure, I got 332, you got 306 and you got 300. I'm the king!!!"
E46 M3 owner "hmmm, I have 333 hp, one more, and I am also faster"
I8ABMR at the meet "hmm, i have a bigger GS 350, and I also beat you"
G37 owner "yes, but I'm the king, I have 332 according to infiniti.com"
Its like saying I have the biggest gun with the smallest bullets.

There is minimal gain from this reflash. It is laughable that 335 owners would pay major $$$ for 20hp.. So many more options available..
