Post Cops clock man driving 137 mph in '93 Honda Civic

GREENVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - State police have ticketed an upstate New York man for driving more than twice the 65-mph speed limit on an interstate highway. Troopers said a 21-year-old man was clocked doing 137 mph on Interstate 84 in Orange County on Tuesday. He was pulled over in the westbound lanes near Exit 2 in the town of Greenville, on the New Jersey border 60 miles northwest of New York City.

Troopers said the man was driving a 1993 Honda Civic.

The man was ticketed for speeding, reckless driving and having vehicle windows with illegal tint.

He's due to appear in Greenville Town Court on Feb. 25.

There was no telephone listing for the man.

Would not have stood a chance in doing so. In that section of I-84, the exits are about 10 miles apart. Speeding ticket is better than felony evasion anyday.

Have driven the area many times in a tractor trailer. There is a VERY steep hill which is pretty much a straight away and you CAN get some really good speed. There have been times that I have had to watch myself going down that hill, especially fully loaded, because there were times I looked at the speedo and was doing 80+ in the semi.

That reminds me of that kid that got clocked going like 120 in his civic, and he hired a professional driver to prove that his car maxed out at like 105 or something.

There was a friend of mine back in Mexico who did over 270 km/h or 167 mph on the Periferico, which is the Mexico City beltway that goes around a good part of the city. All he got was a 240 peso ticket (24 USD more or less back then) and no points, because it was a stationary radar camera which makes no distinction on speed. That still stands as a car record though bikes have gone by much faster. His car an Audi S4. Now with the points system in Mexico, its 6 points, 240 pesos and if you accumulate 12 points in 1 year, you lose your license (though now they have a course system you can get the points back on). Foreigners and out-of-state plates don't participate in this stationary radar scheme.

137 isn't much... I had a 93 Civic Del Sol, it's heavier than a 93 Civic Hatch, but I did a few times of over 130mph.. that's with a 125hp 1.6L single cam VTEC... I hate to say that word. lol

BTW, once is with the top down, it's a nice breeze at that speed.
