Default Lexus to Launch Ultra Luxury Brand

i found this very intersting, kind of a good laugh too

The Japanese car magazine Carview is reporting that the Japanese luxury brand Lexus is considering the establishment of an ultra-luxury label to rival that of Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

A Lexus spokesman explained that Lexus had thoroughly researched the market and feels that consumers will embrace their products.

Details are still sketchy. In planning are two vehicles consisting of a large sedan and a coupe that will most likely be based on a modified chassis of the existing Lexus LS. It is as of yet unclear if these vehicles will be powered by conventional gasoline engines or a combination of gasoline-hybrid.

A nameplate for this most prestigious label has not yet been decided.
i guess it would rival maybach...but seeing how thats going for MB...

damn, you beat me to it: ) yeah nice article spelled out on a napkin: ))

But I think if Lexus did this they would learn from the mistakes MB made. They should do this, this market will only grow and they would increase Lexus prestige right away also.

I have been saying for the longest time that the Lexus brand needs to move more upscale. The LS needs to start at $100,000 and leave the GS in the $60-$80k segment. Also move the ES a little more upscale.

Hyundai or Lexus who will reign supreme?

That's still very strange to even read.

the only Lexus related article I saw was that one with the new Michilen tire on the LS....which was a tire review article (but is what that hotlinked article is above).

Not a whole lot of detail and/or information in there, at this point I'm going to have to say the rumor mills seem to have been going.

Only time will tell if there is any truth to these rumors or not.

Interesting idea...perhaps to differentiate the $250,000+ LF-A?

The LS 600h L at $100,000+ may be paving the way...

Anyone remember this rumor?

This rumor was pretty rampant a few years ago so I am surprised to see it pop back up again now. At one point one of the execs at Lexus was asked point blank if there was any validity to the rumors and he said something to the effect of "We can do everything that we need and want to do with the LS line." And then we got the 460L and 600hL shortly there after. We also have the LX 570 which is basically THE ultra luxury SUV so the only thing they're missing is a coupe.

IMO, I don't think Lexus needs an ultra luxury brand and I think this article is valid at all because the last thing a conservative Japanese company like Lexus is going to do right now in this world economy is come out with a line of even more expensive premium automobiles.

So, I call BS.

Given how badly Maybach has bombed, plus the current crappy economy, I think this "luxury badge above Lexus" talk is pure, unadulterated B.S.

i just don't know how much more ultra luxury you can get past the ls600h. looking at the rest of the other luxury brands, i think lexus captured a lot of the cool luxury items in their ls600h.

the only thing the car needs is a driver so i can hang out in the back and sleep while i go somewhere.
