HERNDON, Virginia —The first Audi R8 V10 in the U.S. has sold for more than three times the anticipated sticker price at a charity auction last week. The V10 R8, expected to sell in dealerships for around $150,000, went for $500,000 at the Boca Raton Concours d'Elegance on February 21.
But the man who won the car wasn't concerned about the owning the first R8 V10. He waived his right to the first U.S. production car, if Audi would give him the second car for his $500,000. Audi agreed and the first car went on the block for a second time, fetching $350,000. The ten-cylinder R8 produces 525 horsepower and blasts to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Sales in the U.S. will start near the end of 2009.
The R8s were sold at a gala benefitting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County. The auction also featured the first 2010 Ferrari California sold in the U.S., which went for $350,000. In total, the Boca Raton Gala raised more than $1 million for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County.
Inside Line says: Fast cars and big money for a good cause.

I'm guessing that charitable donations are down all over the place because of the recession.
I say kudos to him for helping the kids during a difficult time.

hell yeah. that's what i was thinking.
car is too ugly to be $500k.
this dude's money would be better spent paying back my school loans.
on another note, if this shiet sells for $150k msrp....... NO WAY lexus can command $250k for the LFA. Sorry, Lexus' shiet doesn't smell like roses.

what a clown!!! 500K for a car that will not become extremely collectable in the future because its to common and really not that special. Lamborghini is way more exclusive and better looking

The R8 has been in production for only a year, maybe less. Lamborghini Murcielagos and Gallardos date back to 2003 and 2004, and tons of rich people in Miami, Vegas, and Hollywood own them. So Lamborghini's are not very exclusive, though if you were in a bar it would be more appealing if you said "I drive a Lamborghini" versus "I drive an Audi."
IMO, the R8 is for those who know cars and will come to truly appreciate it.
