What's Your Most Important Criteria In A Car Purchase?
Exterior appearance, value (bang for buck), interior appearance, features (quality of nav, tech features, xenon headlights, audio system, instrumentation), driving characteristics (ride/handling/acceleration/steering/braking), reliability, brand cachet...?
For me, I'd say:
1) driving characteristics
2) value
3) features
4) reliability
5) interior appearance
6) exterior appearance
7) brand cachet

Quality/reliability, versatility, comfort, cost, AWD availability, interior design/ease of control operation, and headroom. I take a very dim view of complex controls when trying to drive.

hmm ...
How well the car fits me (ie: when I sit in the drivers seat, how instantly comfortable I am, and how much I can adjust everything to be exactly where I want it ... I hate having things adjusted to their max)
That ties with the tactile experience.
Beyond that in no particular order we have: performace, speed, fun & quality.
Those are all deal breakers if I'm actually car shopping (as opposed to car buying which I seem to do more often, and for me that's basically just going out and buying a car the same day)

For me the top components are luxury, driving characteristics, reliability, and last but not lest ergonomics and intuitive design.
I was quite torn between the 535i and GS450h, both have excellent driving characteristics. The BMW had excellent handling with the 450h taking the cake in the power department. But what differentiated the two was the ease of use and ergonomics. In this scenario, the GS won hands down with a nicer stereo, easy-to-use navigation, excellent switch ware, and not having iDrive. But those sport seats in the 535i sure were nice!
