E36s seems to a good project car. Already there are a few 2JZ-GTE'd E36. Supposedly, many of these swappers say the 2jz fits their car better than their own BMW engines.
There have been JZ-swaps for over 2 years now. Most of them are cool with it. Once in a while, you get an elitist ***** who comments on how the BMW no longer has 'soul' because it has a Japanese engine.
best of both worlds in my opinion... bmw handling, toyota reliability. doesn't solve the reliability issues with the rest of the car though. door switches/dash/power windows, etc...
Would the excess weight of the 1JZ throw off the nearly 50/50 balance of the M3? Not knocking it, as I think it's an awesome idea... just an idea that's probably better left on paper.

I was thinking the same thing about the weight. Does the 1JZ weigh considerably more then an S50/52? IIRC one of the notable strong points of the E36 M3 was how well balanced the car was.
Anyway, I think a 2JZ in an E46 would be more interesting! I'm sure there's one out there somewhere...

Good call, and then you have a few JDM punks who are p*ssed off because their swapped engines are now surrounded by German unreliability
