How about looking at it this way: YOU can live in your own little dream world and ignore the advances in diesel technology. Hybrid technology has more development potential, but so does diesel technology. It's far from over.

Modern diesels are clean (getting cleaner), efficient and refined. These attributes are getting improved upon and can only become better.

My next car is definitely going to be a diesel (Citroen C5 HDi).

Hydrogen is just replacing one evil with another. It takes a lot of electricity or petro-chemicals to break down the hydrogen to use in cars.

Oh it is over. Go check out the Tesla Model S.....IT'S OVER

Your "advanced" diesel will look nice next to a steam locomotive in a museum

yup, hydrogen is good !!, harvesting is hard. We (as in the world) have spent millions of dollars on figuring out how do drill oil during a hurricane we can figure out how to seperate hydrogen from water in a efficient manner, please dont post videos about that guy that build a machine that separates water into hydrogen by electricity.

You do know Tesla is bankrupt, right? Current battery technology flat out sucks and charging takes forever not to mention our grid will not be able to handle millions of cars trying to charge in the middle of the day.

Hydrogen holds lots of promise but will likely cost billions in infrastructure costs and the technology isn't perfect.

Diesel, is the best option we have now. It isn't perfect but it is cleaner, cheaper and more efficient than gasoline.

Yawn....Model S batteries can be charges in 45 minutes if you install a 480v outlet. Fast enough for me.....and what grid? I plan on having solar panels on the roof and a small vertical axis wind turbine...and no I didn't realise they're bankrupt. last I heard they are about to get the $350 million loan they need to build the car.....Yeah hydrogen holds promise. Get back to me in 50 years when finally it reaches it. Until then and maybe even after I'll be rolling around in a 100% electric car. I'll take a hydrogen cell to store energy in my house from the solar panels and wind generator. or maybe i'll just get a ultra capacitor.

It's over. Electric cars have won. 21st century is here.

Amen

Oh, and don't forget about the 5 minute battery swap option Tesla is going to offer as well. I remember not too long ago that the biggest complaints people had about EVs were the following:

1. Range not long enough
2. No option for a quick charge
3. No option for a quick battery swap
4. Batteries take up too much trunk space
5. Batteries too expensive to replace

Well, it seems Tesla has solved the first four problems with the Model S. Eventually, prices will come down as they do with anything electronic and the batteries will become cheaper as well. Regardless, this vehicle is a huge step forward and things can only get better from here

Seriously, have you been living in a cave the last several years?

Even the cleanest diesel is not as clean as the gasoline (those new "clean diesels" barely meet the California emission standard), nevertheless the hybrid...

Diesel fuel is at parity or cheaper in many locations currently.
Diesel here is 50 cents more than regular and about 20 cents more than premium.

Only because CARB was too stupid to make a different emission standard for diesel. Diesel release far fewer hydrocarbons than gasoline (primary polutant) but releases more NOx compared to gasoline. So, in their infinite wisdom they made diesel standards the same as gasoline effectively banning diesel untill Mercedes created the Blutec urea system. With urea, diesels are far cleaner.

So are you saying if they use a different standard for Diesels then it'll be cleaner? Okay...

With a different standard McCain should be the president now...

So what's your point?

I can't speak to California's prices but my local Chevron has diesel for the same price as regular.

And so continues my love/hate relationship with premium.
