LS is very close to awesome though... and has a fabulous drivetrain.

That's not called overpriced. That's simply a market economy. People are willing to pay more for BMW. Kudos to BMW and Mercedes for being able to sell cars at a higher price. I don't see anything wrong with that. Again kudos to BMW and Mercedes for developing a reputation that instills loyal (Badge snobs, or whatever you want to call them) customers. Lexus isn't all that far off. They've developed quite a loyal following and if you take your blinders off, will realize just about each new generation of Lexus models keep going up and up in price.

lexus is getting to the point where its cars don't look that classy when placed side by side with the germans.
they need an exterior overhaul.
the simplicity of L-finesse isn't going to work anymore now that hyundai's bodywork is equally l-finessed.

BMW has lease deals with 0.9% APR + first two payments on them:

Lexus has?
Back in December when Lexus was running "the event" the sales numbers were:
Lexus: 23,362
MB: 18,507
BMW: 18,060
I am not trying to defend Lexus for having a craptacular March sales figure, I agree that its lineup is getting old and they do need to spice it up somehow. I am just trying to put everything in perspective so no one is getting the one-sided story.

Yep, there is definitely a "smart" explosion going on. A new dealer just opened here in Walnut Creek, in the space vacated by a Porsche dealer. The turnout and reservations for their "roadshow" was the highest here in Northern California at that new dealer in the east bay.
