Default Considering a used 2004 Acura TSX: opinions?

I am considering getting a used TSX with 80K miles to use as a commuter car (auto tranny)

Anybody have a good / bad experience owning one of these?

What should I look for problems / maintenance issues?

Thanks

It's hard to go wrong with a Honda I4. I haven't heard of any major problems with them but the mileage is kinda high.

that's hardly high these days.

that thing can go 175k miles no problem.

the TSX isn't fancy either, so it should be pretty dependable.

I like the first-generation TSX more than the redesigned one this year. The new one is larger inside, but the interior, IMO, is not as impressive as before. The trim has been cheapened.

Allen K is correct that there aren't any widespread major issues with it, but, as with any used car, check it out as carefully as you can. Try to find out if it was given regular oil changes.....that is important.

My brother in law has a 2005 TSX with the 6-Speed manual. The car is a great car. Not a single thing has gone wrong thus far in the last 4 years he has owned it. With the 6-Speed the 205HP I4 is more than adequate in terms of power. It is not a speed demon by any means, but good power for day to day activities. I haven't driven the automatic, but I did hear it is a little less spunky than the manual. Power should still be good, but you may find it slightly weak in the torque department if you are trying to get on it hard. With the manual its not a problem since you are always in the right gear. Normal day to day driving it should be just fine though.

My little brother has an 04 TSX. It has some slight rattle every now and then, and the OEM brake rotor apparently is prone to warping. Otherwise, everything else is fine. Then again, his car has significantly less mileage than 80k. His is around 30k, I believe.

Some of those have tranny issues - check with a local Acura dealer but otherwise they're sound cars and costs almost as much to own as an Accord.

Honda's K-series engine is a great motor too, the TSX gets a tweaked version - 190HP instead of the 160-170HP Accord one, IIRC.

I owned an '05 TSX and put 44,000 trouble free miles. Traded it in for a bigger family sedan. Loved that car! You won't be disappointed.

My wife had a '05 TSX and currently has a '09. Both cars have been dependable and I think the first gen was more fun to drive. The interior also looks nicer in the first gen even though the second gen has a few more bells and whistles. My kids' car seats fit better in the new car, but I miss the '05.

My last car was a 2005 6-speed, the gearbox is really nice. Did not have any major problems except condensation in the headlight assembly (covered under warranty), its an awesome car for daily driving.

from a dealer or private individual? with navi? if from a dealer and with navi, see if you can get an updated navi. how many miles? hondas/acuras have notorious batteries, if its still the original battery, it will need a new one. Check for rattles, drive over some rough terrain. Listen to loud music.

oh. you should be asking questions over on acurazine as well.
