since kia is using the hyundai parts bin, i'd assume kia is now pretty reliable.
hyundai and kia finally got smart and realized that a car's sales has 90% to do with exterior styling, and 10% everything else.
a hot looking car will sell itself.
I completely agree with this. If a car is great looking on the outside, it will sell like hotcakes. Most people are turned on to their cars because of its looks. Just look at how many POS Chrysler 300s were sold as proof of this theory. Nobody was buying those things because of Chrysler's stellar reputation for reliability
It amazes me that a company like Toyota/Lexus does not understand this. Despite their great reliability/dependability, if they don't start making more attractive vehicles and overall start taking more chances with their designs, they are going to be losing more and more business to Hyundai, Kia, and others. They need a new styling direction and fast.

Toyota and Lexus dont need to take chances, they are number one and they know this. Stick with what got them to the top, thats the formula, dont change anything if its not broken. I am not saying I agree with what they are doing, all their cars and SUV are starting to look the same. This L-finesse thing is getting boring fast. I agree with you that Lexus need a new design direction, but thats a big risk that Lexus is not willing to take.
To me it looks much more like BMW and Audi than Lexus
Well if an ex-Audi/VW designer works for them now, then that's to be expected. Aside from that big Kia logo on the hood that car looks pretty good. Yeah, it has some styling ques from Audi, but so what? We all knocked the "bangle butt" on BMW's when they first came out, then everyone including Toyota has the same thing (like the LS and even the Camry) yet you don't really hear about anyone putting Lexus or Toyota down for it.
The Koreans are now a force to be reckoned with. I am very very impressed. I never thought after the early hyundais that I would ever say that. I remember seeing hyundai excels that would burn oil after 2 years and now look at what they are putting out.
