although I don't think its an ugly car at all, I HATE any designs that steal from BMW's, you couldn't pick an uglier car company to copy, everything Bangle touched or tweaked looks awful, the bangle butt, the bangle crease, they are just awful and the reason I won't be considering a BMW until they return to the pre-Bangle days.

The front and rear fenders are way too pronounced.... The previous generation looked so much better!

Oh my, oh my.

The current Subaru Legacy is possibly the best-looking Japanese mainstreamer in its class. This...this is hideously boring, to be completely honest.

I am not someone who plays the "copying" game but when I look at this car I can't help but feel that the rear is a Lexus GS copy, the side profile screams Chrysler Sebring sedan and the front looks like it borrowed some Acura styling cues. Oh my, oh my.

Man that center console is gigantic. I think it might fit better in a SUV.

I like CVTs. From the sound of it, Subaru has done a good job making it so this doesn't have the boring, harsh feel of early CVTs. I wouldn't be surprised if the '11 GT came with a 5 speed auto. For the base 2.5L model, and for Impreza and Forester, a CVT is the best option for economy IMO. I am surprised that we haven't seen it in more compact, efficient vehicles like the Corolla for example.

Ugh.. the current one is the best looking one. Looks like Subaru designers stared too long at the S-Class because those fender flares are hideous.

Certainly not the ugliest Subarus made but nothing special either.

This is not Subaru's first-time CVT. I don't know if you are old enough to remember the small Subaru Justy sub-compact from the early 1990s. It had a 3-cylinder engine (non-boxer engines are unusual for a Subaru) and a CVT. I remember test-driving one, and its quirky RPM/acceleration habits.

The Justy was a CVT failure. Who would have ever thought that they would take off? But Nissan has certainly sold quite a few of them to date. I think CVTs have come along way since the 90s.

Looking at the fuel economy (prior to EPA testing revisons) of the Altima:

4AT: 23/29
CVT: 26/34

If we could see even a 2 MPG in a Legacy with a CVT, I would take it as a win.

I bet the window trim on the pics in the OP will swap back and forth. Look at the back of it.

I am not liking the defined arches that I am seeing on many of the new cars. Makes the car look cheap and ugly

As both you and I have pointed out, Nissan seems to do the best job getting good drivability out of CVT's. The ones from other automakers, from my experience, have not been impressive...they tend to surge and "rubber-band" on acceleration.

But, we'll see how the new Legacy/Outback 2.5 does with the CVT. If it drives adequately (to my satisfaction) with it, I, of course, will consider a purchase (as I own an Outback now, and normally get a new car about every 5 years).

Altima CVT's have a lot of problems. They should leave CVT's for snowmobiles.
