Station wagons are popular all over the world except in the US, where they became unpopular and even uncool in the mid 90s when they were replaced by minivans which were then replaced somewhat by SUVs.
This is just the natural evolution back to the far more practical wagon, but without calling it such a 'dirty' name, and without quite making it 100% a wagon visually speaking.
The Toyota Venza is another example.
It does seem a little strange to see such an expensive exotic wagon on the market when they're still not popular even in the under 30k dollar range, but I guess it's due to the fact that they already build them in Europe, so why not bring them over here and see if they can make a little bit of money and a little bit of headway into a potentially reemerging market segment.
