its not so much trying to preserve my lexus... but the civic is just more practical for the type of work i do. its less on gas and cheaper in maintenance. I can carry all my supplies and park in tighter spaces, plus i don't have to worry so much about getting banged up on the streets...

The OP suggested that "most" of us don't drive our Lexus daily. Why wouldn't we, and why have a Lexus? And why would you not drive in the rain? Unless we have the intention of keeping it in new condition until it becomes an antique.
I think the reality is that most people use their Lexus either exclusively as their only car or at least most of the time.

I have a 97 Civic EX Coupe that I treat like a real beater, it just keeps on runnin, picked it up a few mo's back for $4000 with 80,000 miles. It looks like its been through hell but still gets 30+ MPG. I park it in places no one with a nice car would dare park, jump curbs to get around people, slam on the brakes if I need to teach someone a lesson, basically having a car you absolutley do not care about is fun for daily driving. Insurance (liability) is only $349 a year with AAA. Can't beat it.

My normal DD is my SC, but for the past 3 weeks i've been out of commission with a blown clutch. Been borrowing my roommates Ford Ranger pickup. A bit of a POS but it gets me around for now. Not very comforting with an ABS light, CEL and a loud clunking in the front end. I'm still alive though. So that's a plus.
